AMP Question

Recommended Posts

Newbie here. I am in the process of getting my Epihone Les Paul Standard this week (hopefully)

So the next questions is AM/Speakers.

I have a Crate Spa 1400 Stereo AMP connected to two Mission Argonaut 780 speakers. Can i connect the Guitar to one of the channels on the AMP. Will it damage/break anything?

I am asking as i read advice on the forum not to connect your guitar to the home theather amp. I am using the crate SPA to power two speakers in my home theather setup as the home theather amp i have is not powerful enugh.

This way i will just disconnect one of the inputs from the Home Theather amp and into the the Crate AMP and plug in the guitar to play.

Does this setup work?

The link to the crate AMP can be found here: http://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&frm=1&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CBwQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fdl.owneriq.net%2F8%2F8b29d030-3cf8-496e-8bcf-992dbd2b32b5.pdf&ei=NoXiU4uxLM-XyATC-YCoBQ&usg=AFQjCNGaeHnQUbUCpV7dCKAkV3_tSm8oXw&sig2=WW17_P6z-T_PB9aP4SPJ7A&bvm=bv.72197243,d.aWw

Hey there CSH, Welcome.

Bottom line is you have no pre-amp or shaping for an electric guitar with the items above. Nice gear, your music must sound pretty good through them.

Your guitar choice has been excellent, can't really go wrong with an Epi Les Paul. For a practice amp, as your starting out, have a look at a Roland Microcube or a recent addition to my home and a lot more versatile is the Yamaha THR10. Both can produce a variety of tones but the Yammy has some advantages.

Both of these amps or something similar will pump out enough volume to play along with your stereo / home theatre for songs you will want to learn.

Good luck and stick with it. cheers...

Thaanks for your reply.

Sorry i am a little confused. It looks like Yamaha is a AMP/Speaker combo? If i use this then why do i need my home theather setup?

Also can i just buy a pre amp and connect it to the crate amp? If yes then can you suggest something?

Maybe i am not getting it correct at all. Please help
