Tone controls

Recommended Posts

When buying either a solid-body, or a semi-hollow guitar. IS it important to have tone controls for each pickup, or is one tone control for, say, two humbuckers adequate/good enough. My concern is that one tone control may limit the versatility in terms of types of sounds that a guitar can produce, but lack the experience to know in reality if this is the case.

Some have two, some have one. It is a matter of what your ear wants to hear. In my opinion, unless you are playing at substantial volumes, tweaking tone controls will not make that much of an impact on your sound.

I Had a National Steel that had a volume and tone control for each pickup. More of a headache than anything else. lol
