Guitar Pro InformationWhat is Guitar Pro?
Guitar Pro is a wonderful software program which allows you to enter, note by note, any piece of guitar music and to then play it back and listen. The interface is a guitar fretboard and playback uses midi for the sound. You can watch the notes and chords dance around the fretboard, you can slow it down, speed it up, stop and loop it ... you can even change key with a click. The software generates tab and notation which you can save and export as images. It even allows you to 'multi track', building up layers of other instruments and percussion. Do I need the Guitar Pro file to learn your lessons?
No, you don't. The video with the animated virtual fretboard, TAB and written commentary are all you really need. However, as I mention above, Guitar Pro (or the open source version, Tuxguitar) is a wonderful tool for guitarists of all levels. I highly recommend it.
Why do you include a Guitar Pro file with your lessons?
They're an additional way of breaking the lesson down into its elements. Learning guitar, as you already know, is a very visual process, and Guitar Pro allows you to see all the action moving around the fretboard and lets you stop, start and loop the bits you may have trouble with. You can also speed up or slow down the tempo, and cross reference what you see my hand doing in the movie with the graphics in Guitar Pro.
What software do I need to open the file?
You can either use Guitar Pro or use an open-source version called TuxGuitar to open them.
Do you have any tips for using GuitarPro?
We have a Guitar Pro tutorial that was kindly put together by one of our members.
