Can Anyone (Kirk ) help me figure out these chords.

Hello, It's been awhile since I've posted. I just recently ordered Plane Talk, but haven't received it yet, otherwise I'm sure I would more easily be able to figure out the chords that I'm asking help with. It is my girlfriends birthday on Saturday and one of her favourite songs is "Smuggler's Waltz/Bronx Lullaby" by Tom Waits, which I would love to be able to play for her. I found a clip of it on youtube, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WYirCVys24 and tried to emulate what he was playing as much as possible but there are some chords that I feel I have either slightly or greatly off.

So far I made out these chords:

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxx5xxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxx5xxxxxxxxxxxxx Am
xxxxxxxxxxx7xxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxOxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxx(7)xxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxx7xxxxxxxx E9 or E7
xxxxxxx6xxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxx7xxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxx10xxxxxxxxxxxx Dminor 7
xxxx10xxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxx12xxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxx(10)xxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxx10xxxxxxx G9 or G7
xxxxxxx9xxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxx10xxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

There is another chord played after the G9 or 7 and I think it is a Cmaj 7, but I can't figure out what notes of that chord, if it is that chord, he is playing in the higher register.

Most of these chords are repeated and then there is a slight chord change on the " So hush little baby, Daddy must go..." He seems to stmble at that point so I can't make out what he is trying to play, though it musically sounds like it should go to some form of C and then F.

The end has some descending chords which also sound like 7th chords, but once again I'm not sure of all of them.

I'm sorry this isn't explained very well, but if Kirk, or anyone can help me out on this one I would greatly appreciate it, and I'll be sure to credit you in the birthday card, haha.

,Thanks

Julian

Hi, Julian, I had a quick listen ... it's not easy to hear on the little speakers I'm listening through today, but here's how I hear it:

Am - E7 - Am - E7
Dm - G9 - Esus4/B - E7 X2

Dm - G7 - C? (he kind of flubs it there) - Am7
Dm - G7 - Esus4 - E7
Am E7 Am D7 F7 E7

descending bit: Am D7 G C9 F E7

Am - E7 - Am - E7
Dm - G9 - Esus4/B - E7
Am - E7 - Am - D7 - F7 - E7
Am D7 G C9 F E7

Hope that helps!

That's why it's so great indeed. Thank you so much, Kirk. I played through the chords you provided briefly and they sounded great to me. For the C that gets flubbed I just decided to play:

xxxxxxxxxxxx
xx8xxxxxxxxx
xxxxx9xxxxxx
xxxxxxxx10xx Then hit the B on the 9th fret of the D string and slide down to the Am.
xxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxx

Whatever sounds good, right? Thanks Again, that was very helpful.... Now I'm off to practice.

Cool ... Tom obviously has his way of playing those; I just listened and did it that way. Glad I could help.
