  Metronomes

Here is a tip for you I read about and tried. I have a little digital met,but i read that a metronome with an old fashioned swing arm is better. This is the thinking behind it. The more cues you have in a learning process, the more deeply you tend to learn. That means that you get to watch as well as hear the beat and also can anticipate the beat easier with a swing arm metronome. I picked up a cheapo plastic one new for 50 buck. Bonus, it winds up, no battery. I much prefer it.

Those are really nice. My girlfriend has an old wooden one that works very well, unfortuneatley she wont let me take it to practice with . So I am stuck watching the little electric swing bar on my metrotuner. I do agree that the wooden one is probably better, and the ticking noise is much less annoying than the beeping noises on electric metronomes.

Allthumbs,

Thanks for the tips. I'm using an old wooden wind-up swing arm one that my wife used 40 years ago for classical piano. I've always had it to the side of me just listening to it. I'll try putting it in front of me.

Eek, I didn't realize metronomes could be so expensive. I
just tried looking some up on ebay.

Look at this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Metronome-Collec... QcmdZViewItem

$180 (US) right now.

It looks nice, though. If I had the money, and was 100%
positive that it wasn't haunted...
