need help with a song

Okay so i'm learning to play Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls. Beautiful song! Anyways heres the intro:

e|-----------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|------0----0----0----0-----------------------------------------------------|
G|------7----6----4----2-----------------------------------------------------|
D|------0----0----0----0-----------------------------------------------------|
A|------x----x----x----x-----------------------------------------------------|
E|------7----7----3----2-----------------------------------------------------|

Now i know that x means you shouldnt play that string (in this case A) but does that mean i play the low E 7 and then strum the other 3 strings underneath the AX?

if you've heard the acoustic version of the song which is what that tab is based on you cant really hear him missing a beat. How is it done?

When it is tabbed like that, you play all the notes at the same time. He is probably hitting the dead string with a pick as he strums the notes rather than lifting it to skip it. The x means the string is deadened rather than not played at all. Usually a finger on the ajacent string is in contact with the unplayed string enough to deaden it.

It could also be played finger style...? I don't know the song, so I don't know. If so, the thumb would grab the bass string, the index, middle and ring fingers the other three strings.

Those chords, by the way, are Bm to Bmadd9 to G to D6.

I think it was picked, the x would have normaly been omitted if it was finger style. Try both, tab can be pretty quirky sometimes. I tend to do everything in fingerstyle anyway.

I don't know the song, but from the tab I think it can be played like this way. Place your index finger on the sixth string and lay your index finger down a little bit in order to just tuch the fifth string. In this case you mute the fifth string and strum all the notes at one time.

that x could also mean an accidental. When they recorded it he wasn't hitting the chord just right.HUMMMMMM and I thought the song was picked and not strummed, I've seen the video along time ago and thought he was strumming in the video thou. Just think they went from playing Punk Metal to playing songs like Iris.

Jean ,

Im sorry I have tried this song a couple of times but no string snaps. However, I was just putting it up so he could hear the guy explain how to play it. I dont recommend that tuning for the simple fact it puts a lot of stress on the guitar ...
