B note confusion
I've been clicking along on my own up until tonight. I started on the eighths lessons. While transcribing the next song (I write the note/string number accordingly) I noticed the B note is pointed up now. Up until now it has always pointed down indicating 2nd string B . I haven't learned any other B yet. Does this up/down note mean anything? It's the final note in a 4 note beam if that means anything. A3, G3, A3, B?. Is it still the 2nd string B? Thanks for any help. I suspect most of my questions will revolve around notation.

... trying to understand the question, Bluesyzep ... can't.
I can tell you though that you can find B notes in many places on a guitar fretboard:
7th fret/6th string
2nd fret & 14th fret/5th string
9th fret/4th string
4th fret/3rd string
0 & 12th fret/2nd string
7th fret/1st string
The bold ones are the exact same B note, same in pitch.

....and I was confused writing it.
Put the B thing aside. For any note when it points up or down on the sheet. Does that indicate anything? Sorry if my terminology is bad.

Are you talking about the direction of the stem of the note in standard notation? If so, It is the same note ether way.

Yes. "Stem". I'm sure of what the note is but thought that stem direction may indicate a different string. I have two "B" 's on the same staff line. One points up and one points down.

As long as it is on the same line of the staff, it will be the same note no matter what is attached to it.

I was beginning to wonder if this was asking about a strum direction for chords--i have never heard of notes called A3 or G3-, any thoughts out there?

That has me wondering too. It may be that he is playing those notes on the G string only. If so, then the B may be played at the 4th fret on the G string,

Sorry for all the confusion. I came up with my own system for interpreting music. At least it has worked for me so far. A3 would be the A note on the third string. G3 would be the G note on the first string. I don't reference the frets because I don't have a problem with that. Just note and string number for a quick reference is all I need.

Instead of explaining myself I'll just keep it short and say I've only been playing 3 weeks and have no natural music ability. I also have no experience to say what is the right or wrong way. That's why I'm learning.

You might find this helpfull. It is a pretty standard way of reading music that is similar to what your doing.
Tablature - what it is and how it works

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
