IS this the 2nd note of the scale? for example, C(add 2), does this mean the C chord, then add the D note? Is the D note the lower or higher sounding D note also?
Yes, that's it. Generally, it sounds better if the 2 is added 'above' the rest of the notes. If you add the 2 (9) to a 7th chord, then it's called a 9th.
