This is about as simple of explanation as I could find. I think it covers notes and chords pretty well.

There are 3 pages in total. Click on the links at the bottom of each section to get to the next page.
Hope it helps.

It just means they are played all at once so it could be a strum or all 3 strings plucked at once with the fingers.

Hi hilch,
If you haven't been through it already, there is a two part lesson on TAB in the lesson forum. Part one is here - Tablature - what it is and how it works

Like allthumbs said it could be a strum or or a 3 string pluck. The best way to tell which, is to listen to the song your trying to play. You should be able to tell wether the artist is strumming or plucking and finger picking, just by listening to it. The same goes for timing. A tab might look like this:
2------3------2
3---3-----3----
2--------------
0--------------
x--------------
x--------------
And unless you've heard the tune recently you wont know how fast of slow to play the tab. Generally the further apart the chords or notes are in a tab the more time there is between them, but it's not exact.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
