C7?

Why did they tab it like that? I'm not sure, but isn't that
chord C7, but with an omitted 5? Or does it turn into a
completely different chord when you don't include the 5?

C, E, Bb

I ask because that particlar tab isn't physically possible..

Why would they do it that way? Is it because of the unison Es? It
doesn't matter how much I practice, I don't ever think I'll be able
to stretch my fingers from the second fret to the 8th fret.

btw, the song is "Do the Evolution" by Pearl Jam. Great song.

I have run into orangutan chords before. I don't get them either. Maybe Nelsonite knows what's going on with them.

I bet the tab was generated from a midi file. I've seen some strange looking tab made that way.

id assume the notes are right, if they are not you probibly ran into a pretty bad tab, wrong notes played with impossible fingerings. id just play it (8-7-8-9-X-X) or (X-3-2-3-5-X) what ever is easier in the context of the song. The person who made the tab obiously didnt play through it, so you might just be out of luck. Dont know the song so i cant really help.

lol ive seen many tabs like that, i think its just from when ppl generate them from midis and tab programs

a C7 is a major chord (I III V) with a VII thats a semitone lower when compared to the major scale
so any dominant 7th chord is I III V bVII (i think thats right)

Well, if I mute the seventh fret on the A string with my pinky and stretch to the 8th fret on the E, it still sounds like a steaming pile. So obviously someone's made a gross typo, or they're tapping an odd voicing at the same time as they're trying to build tension, which is never a good idea.

Is a good C7; or

It has an 'interesting' sound if played as an arpeggio? Difficult to say without knowing the song. Most likely a mistake I reckon ...
