Having trouble with tabs
I recently received a Lynyrd Skynyrd tab book I ordered online. I'm familiar with with most of the symbols used in tabs, but in the book's notation glossary it doesn't say what (3) means, for example. What does this mean when the fret # is in parenthesis?
Can anyone help?
mucho appreciated,
Bob

That usually indicates a ghost note. Do a search for ghost note on this site. There is a list of the things a ghost note can indicate.

Thanks, buddy. I did a search as recommended and found all I wanted to know about ghost notes. I was wondering why I see them in some tabs and not others covering the same song.
Very helpful site you have here (as if you don't know that already).

No one can master every aspect of guitar playing, they just get better everyday.

You most likely see them in one tab and not another because one is more complete, the note is there no matter what, one just tells you a little more about playing it.

Alas, Kush, you're asking the wrong guy. I'm a beginner and wound up getting my guitar and amp online from musiciansfriend.com on the advice of an experienced lead guitarist/friend. I myself live in a relatively small community with one local shop, "Music Madness." I picked up a Korg tuner there and will occasionally drop in to get picks and such but I'm not at all that familiar with who has what as far as guitars go. If your friend's in one of the larger metro areas (Ft. Lauderdale/Miami, Daytona, Tampa/St. Pete, Jacksonville, etc) he can do an online search and probably find a good store within driving distance.
Good luck,
Bob

Thanks, Jean -- it sure does. Man, it seems the more I get into tabs, the more notations there are to learn.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
