Something I found rather Helpful

I am actually a qualified teacher, though I qualified more in teaching then I did music, bit of a failing of the course I did really.

Though I know a lot of music theory, scales particularly, I never really sat down and kinda put that information down.

So I did, as a lesson for a student, this diagram of the Major Scale.

Not only have I found its really helped me with where the notes are on the fretboard, but it clued me onto something I didn't really know properly.

That the Minor scale is the position before the Major scale.

It has also helped me put the various positions of the major scale I know, into a better context on the fretboard, I feel more comfortable in just the major scale, getting to where I am with the Pentatonic scale which I know very well.

I am not suggesting that looking at this diagram will help you much.

What I am suggesting is that if you recreate this diagram yourself, for perhaps a different scale, that you will learn a lot from the creation process.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!

Buy it now for only $10
