maj9 vs add9
So, I was writing down this little progression I came up with today. And I wrote down a Fadd9 as a Fmaj9, thinking they were the same thing. I guess they're not, though; according to this site: chord house ::: guitar room (advanced) -- online guitar chords and scales
Just wondering what the official definitions of maj and add are.
Does majX mean every other note up until the X? Like, maj9 would be, 1,3,5,7,9; and maj11 would be 1,3,5,7,9,11. Whereas addX just means to add a single note to the chord? 1,3,5,9?

Yes, that's right. Bear in mind though, that the word major in a "major 9 chord", is referring to the fact that the chord also contains a major 7th, rather than the minor 7th (b7) that is a feature of dominant 9ths, 11, and 13ths.
F maj 9 = 1 3 5 7 9 (F A C E G)
F 9 = 1 3 5 b7 9 (F A C Eb G)
F add9 (or add2) = 1 3 5 9 (F A C G)
