First find out from your teacher what they mean by "western" music. It doesn't mean "Cowboys and Indians".

They're probably meaning "Western" (Europe, America, etc) as opposed to "Eastern" (China, India, etc). So it's music based on major and minor scales.

I can guarantee that nobody was offended, Matty.

Anyway, find out from your teachers exactly what is expected, and we'll help you.

that was just a feeble attempt at a joke - I wasn't seriously suggesting trying to find tab for Aaron Copland
His music has the High Chaparral sound to it (I'm aging myself here).

  Country Western........

Country Western is Major scale and most likely I IV V chord progression some ii and vi for fills. Beyond that the lyrics tell a story and that is the reason for the song. There was a need to tell a story so a song was born.

If your instructor was talking about Country Western The rules will not let me give you a link to roughstock.com, but, I think you can figure how to get there.

  Good Western music

Something by Gene Autry-Back in the Saddle Again or Roy Rogers-Happy Trails. There are many but these are true western songs from real cowboys. My Heros Have Always Been Cowboys-Willie Nelson a little more complex chords.

If you are in the U.S.A I'm sure this is what your teacher meant. Since you are a beginner your teacher has picked a style that is usally about three chords. Good Luck with you playing.

Danny

I think mattyw is reffering to "occidental" music Livestone
Fretsource noted this in his first reply.
Not that there's anything wrong with Roy Rogers .
