What is THIS chord?
Hey gang! I just found some chords for an Eagle's tune (Take it to the limit) and it's got a funky chord in it....FaddG.....how is this chord played? According to the schematic, it uses 5 notes and plays on 5 strings....has anyone ever seen such a chord or played it? How is it played? What does it sound like? I want to learn this song but this chord evades me....help me, PLEASE!!!

I don't know what shape they're using but F add G means exatly that. You play F (any shape) and if you've any fingers left you add on the nearest G note - but make sure you don't lose an essential chord tone.
Here's a common 4 string one
XX3213. It's just the common 4 string F chord with your pinky on string 1 fret 3.
Doing that means losing the note F on string 1 fret 1 but there's another F on string 4 so it's no loss.

guess I'll have to study ur response...lol....not really sure what all that means, seeing as how I'm "back to basics" but #1....ty for the info FaddG (F add G) and the advice on playing the note. No clue what the XX3213 is but I'm sure with time I'll figure it out. Thanks again!

The XX mean don't play or damp those strings. The numbers refer to which fret you place your fingers on. The first X being the 6 string and the 3 being the 3rd fret- first string.

XX3213 is just an easy way to write chords.
For example: 320003 is G major.
The six digits are the 6 strings EADGBE
and the number tells you which frets to put fingers on.
so string 6 is fret 3
string 5 is fret 2
strings 4 3 and 2 are open
and string 1 is fret 3.
on the F add G chord (xx3213)
x x means don't play string 6 or string 5.
string 4 is fret 3
string 3 is fret 2
string 2 is fret 1
string 1 is fret 3
Does that help?

so u're basically saying only 4 fingers are needed to play "F add G", yes? That's alot easier than figuring out how to use all the fingers of one hand to hit all the notes.

It would need a D in it, rather than a G, to be called F6 wouldn't it? Perhaps Fadd9 would be a better name?

ok...so there again......since 2 strings are not played......4 fingers could be used to properly play the note, yes? I noticed some good answers to my question about the "4 fingers" but none were a direct "yes" or "no"
