Guitar Questions (easy-medium hard)

Guitar Questions (easy-medium hard)

Hi, can you guys help me answer these questions? I'm trying to help my cousin on his guitar hw, but I have little to no experience on this so any help would be useful.

Multiple Choice
1) a perfect interval raised by a half step becomes....
a)major b)minor c)augmented d) diminished
2)a perfect interval sounds....
a)dissonant b)strong and pure c)major d)augmented f)minor
3) a perfect interval lowered by a half step becomes...
a)minor b)perfect c) diminished
4) a major interval lowered by a half step becomes...
a)minor b)perfect c)major d)minor e)augmented

T/F

5)a major chord is root + major 3rd + perfect 5th.....
6)each major scale has a relative minor scale......
7)C to C(1-1) is a perfect unison
8)chords are built by stacking the notes of a scale in 2nds
9)augmented describes an interval that has been made smaller
10)a minor chord is a root + a minor 3rd + a perfect 5th
11) the relative minor is found on the 6th degree of the major scale
12)minor describes the smaller of 2 similar structures
13)a diminished chord is a root+minor 3rd+ perfect 5th
14)C to B is a major 7th

Critical Thinking

Hi rakd9. Here's my attempt at it (perhaps someone can check it for me )

1) C
2) B
3) C
4) A
5) T
6) T
7) T
8) F
9) F
10) T
11) T
12) T
13) F
14) T

I deliberately didn't attempt the last 5, as it's not ideal if someone else does all your cousin's homework for him. The best way to learn it is to do some research into it. Don't be scared of being wrong. You never know, he might even enjoy it. If you use the search function you should get some useful answers.

With school, I'm always torn b/w two opposing sides. One, I go to classes and everything to get my credits, and two, I go to classes and everything to learn. It sounds as though "your friend" falls into the former. For "your friend" to get good at guitar he needs to not answer the questions, he needs to be able to understand the answers. If he puts the right answers on the hw w/o knowing why then he's shooting himself in the foot.

If you learn how to play songs, then you learn songs. If you learn how to improvise, then you learn music.

NUI - #12 That question "minor describes the smaller of 2 similar structures" means when two similar types of interval of different sizes are compared, the larger one is called major and the smaller is called minor.

For example the intervals A to C and A to C# are both intervals of a third because they are spaced 3 letters apart (A, B & C) but A to C# (4 frets) is a little larger than A to C (3 frets) so A to C# is a MAJOR THIRD and A to C is a MINOR THIRD.
This applies to 2nds, 3rds, 6ths and 7ths, but not perfect intervals of unison, 4ths, 5ths and octave - For those we use the words augmented and diminished.

The OP questions are obviously are an assignment or homework .The OP has appears to have registered( first post) to have someone else do their work for them. Another forum I frequent Whirlpool which gets a lot of this has a strict policy in regard to this type of post , the mods close the thread straight away . Let them do the research themselves , imho answering does them no favours..

I'll take a stab at a few of 'em.....

1) a perfect interval raised by a half step becomes.... TOO PERFECT

2)a perfect interval sounds.... PERFECT

3) a perfect interval lowered by a half step becomes... IMPERFECT

4) a major interval lowered by a half step becomes...
MAJORLY LOWER

...........

15)real name of devil chord - D666 - OFTEN USED BY OZZY OSBORNE AND MOTLEY CRUE

16)what is a pull-off - WHEN YOU "PULL OFF" GETTING SOMEONE TO DO YOUR HOMEWORK FOR YOU ON THE INTERNET

17)hammer-on - WHAT YOUR TEACHER WILL DO TO YOU WHEN HE/SHE FINDS OUT YOU HAD SOMEONE ON THE INTERNET DO YOUR HOMEWORK FOR YOU.

20)difference between nylon and steel guitar - CLASSICAL AND ROCK "N" ROLL, BABY!

I would research it myself it time wasn't the essences she(cousin) had it due like the today.(6/11/07) So, I doubt with my little to no experience in guitar would enable me to find the answers within a few hours. Also, just to make you happy see, I made a second post. Can you tell me exactly where in the guidelines in this forum or site that prohibits this, asking questions on guitar theories and concepts? Also we aren't in your Whirlpool forum so I am not breaking any rules. Besides that the mod si16 seemed to be kind enough to have answered it and didn't close it at first look.

No I can't tell where in the guidlines it states that because as far as I know it doesn't, nowhere in my post did I even suggest you broke a rule that relates to this forum , I merely stated my point of view, that I dont believe that "homework" posts where someones actually just supplies the answers do anyone ,including your cousin any good.
You don't like my stance , so be it .

There isn't a rule about it because it's not something that happens a lot around here. However I tend to agree with Matt which is why I didn't answer all the questions.

Its a actually the harmony b/w a perfect fifth and a flat fifth. The diminished chord wasn't allowed to be played by the church because of that harmony, but domonant 7ths also have that harmony and they weren't allowed to be played either (the harmony b/w a major third and minor 7th is the interval)
