Kirk's Brisbane gigs

I'll be playing with the 'Smokin' Crawdads' this Friday 20th at Tewantin RSL and the next Friday 27th at Bribie Island RSL Club. We rock out BigTime! 8PM start.

I don't mind the drive, Ian, especially coming home after midnight. That final climb up Tamborine Mountain can be quite thrilling ... you wouldn't want to be a passenger, if you get my four-wheel drift.

There don't seem to be any venues on the Gold Coast that have the budget for the 5 piece band, unfortunately. We used to do Seagulls, but not anymore.

Slightly off topic here Kirk but I like the new photo. Wish I could here you play live some time. I am sure it's a real treat. Maybe one day I will make it across the pond.

Best Wishes

Thanks, Bob. You really should come down here for a visit ... they don't call it the Lucky Country for nothing. You'll never want to leave! That's what happened to me in 1975. I came here thinking I'd stay 6 months!

I just learned something new - I live in the Lucky Country!! Ermm, 'scuse me - I'm off to Conrad Jupiter's Casino ...

Kirk - sounds like me ... my last move was to New Zealand. Supposedly for 3 months - ended up staying there for 12 or 13 years!

Times like this I wish I lived just around the corner. Instead I'll be cheering you on in spirit even though I can't be there in body.

You'll have to do a gig down here in little ol' Adelaide Kirk!

Kirk I reckon you ought to give us a POMS visit, I reckon you'd do good here.

Tamborine Mountain, Gold Coast...Conrads .. How can you go wrong?
I used to eat crawdads when I lived in New Orleans. Thats where I got up the nerve to play jazz but found it not an easy task. The melodies or heads as they call em are very difficult to play . I'm really excited about the interest in jazz here hopin I might get back into it.

I am in fact half POM ... my mother is from Wallington, Surrey ... I lived in London on and off between 69 and 74. I love England. A good friend just moved there from Australia, says it's a happening place compared to here.

You never know!

I think you ought to come and check out your roots, I know you would be made welcome. I don't know if you have heard of Gwynn Ashton, he's a fellow guitarist from Australia, he tours over here a couple of times a year, and he is always very popular.
I know your as good as GA. I keep my fingers crossed you make the trip.

I looked for you when I was in Lennox Head a month ago, Kirk. No luck though. I did come across another South Queensland slide player- by the name of Bo Jenkins. Good player - but the pub- what a dive! You would have to have a passion to go for working conditions like that.

I know Bo ... he's actually from the States, Arkansas, and moved over here. He lives very nearby, just a few miles, and he's a great player performer. I spent an afternoon at his place a while back pickin' away.

You are right about the great performer part Kirk, I was riveted. I saw him last year too at the same place - we were sitting in the bistrot next door and my 10 year old son said "Lets go look at the band Dad" . His eyes virtually fell out of his head when he saw it was only one guy.( We won't dwell on 10 year olds hanging at the bar, but he got away with it). Not only is he a great guitarist but he is a master of the stomp box.
