Finally it's here! New Members Showcase part of the forum
Well it's been a long time coming but I think we're ready to roll with it.
The new part to the forum is called " The Members Showcase"
What it does and it's features.
Members submit mp3s of their finished songs ( originals and compositions available in the public domain only at this stage) to the category of their choice. Works much the same as submitting a recording to a normal thread in the "Recording Booth" forum here. It needs a title and a short description.
When the the song is submitted by a member the song is also linked from the members profile page under a new heading "My Recordings"
What features does the "Member's Showcase" section of the forum have over the normal forum?
You can add recordings to your own favorites section and come back at any stage and listen to those recordings any time without having to search through endless threads to find things.
Members can leave comments.
There is a built in Flash play button - you don't need to open a player to play the file... just click the orange play button... you can also pause and rewind with the same built in button.
Recordings are categorized by genres.
Each play is logged and the top played songs rise to the top of the "What's Hot List" our own GFB&B chart. These in future will also be shown on the forum home page.
We will be picking Featured Recordings from all genres and these will show at the top of the song list pages in a randomly selected way. For example if you are in the Blues section, you will see the "Featured Recordings" from that genre... you will also see "What's Hot from that genre... this will change depending on which category you are in.
Each genres song page can be sorted in numerous ways... for example by number of plays, by title of song or by members names.
You can also at any stage click on a members name and see all the recordings that have been submitted by that particular member.
What else? can't think of anything right now. I think it is working ok, but if there are any bugs, let me know.
Also, I have made fairly obvious categories... if there are any you would like added, let me know... I just want to add main categories at this stage, but any ideas let me know.
So anyone with original finished songs, please submit them... it doesn't matter if you have submitted them to the "Recording Booth" previously... as we all know, things get lost in there. We want to encourage members to submit to the new section. This will be a permanent way to have your music heard. The normal "Recording Booth" is also still the place to submit threads for feedback on unfinished songs and also for cover songs you have hosted elsewhere.
Hope you like it!
Clancy
** Note, you must have posted 5 times or more on the forum to be able to add music to our "Members Showcase"

As Jay Jay would say, "Killer Fish" addition to the Forum.
You've only got to be away from the site for a couple of days to miss a couple of excellent recordings, this looks like the cream will rise naturally to the top!
It doesn't matter how many categories there are, you will probably always need one titled "other".
Brilliant.
I got blisters on my fingers........!

Thank you Clancy for this new feature - another great brainstorm of yours. Your hard work will save us lots of time in finding stuff and is just another reason why GFB&B is set apart from everyone else!

Glad you're liking it... now all we need is some more submissions... skinnybloke, Hilch, I know you both have some originals you could submit.

Certainly a + to the forum. Too bad I don't have originals myself.
Thanks for the work you do here Clancy.

Thanks Pete, what a nice thing to say. I love adding new features to the forum... it's not really work for me... and it's especially nice knowing the great group of members we have here.
Thanks to all.

That's great Clancy.
Can I just clarify something for members who feel excluded because they don't write songs? It doesn't have to be an original - it can also be an old or traditional song (e.g., Greensleeves, Scarborough Fair, Pachelbel's Canon, etc). Just as long as there are no copyright concerns, right?

Yes, you're right Fretsource... I forgot to add that in... I'll edit my first post to include that... also, that's great news for us, because you have a couple of great old traditional songs recorded if memory serves me right Fret.
Cheers
Clancy

Fabulous idea, Clancy, thank you! But, is it only for fully completed songs, or works in progress? Is there a way to, say, delete and re-upload it as it moves along? I only thought of that AFTER I posted 'Tan and Grey'....

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
Buy it now for only $10 |
