Effects pedals, Individual pedals or Mulit Effects?

26 March 2013 - 02:47 PM

I'm starting to play more electric guitar and want to start playing around with some different effects but I'm torn between gettting a multi effects unit and individual pedals. I have usually taken a purist apporoach to things which makes me lean toward indvidual pedals. I like the simplicity of turning a knob and hitting a switch but I can see how that can easily lead to a very expensive and complex set up.
On the other hand it looks like you can get a fairly nice multi effects unit in the sub $500.00 range. I really am kind of smitten with the Zoom G5. It offers a lot of features and looks fairly easy to use with the added bonus of preset sounds and amp and cabinet modeling.
I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the subject?

If it makes a difference, I have a Tele and a Strat and Blues jr. amp. I also have a compression, tremelo and a couple of distorion pedals already but they aren't getting much use. I'm not ;looking to be a rock star but I'd like to have some fun.

My Fretting Hand Is Cramping Up

19 February 2012 - 08:26 PM

I've been playing for nearly four years and practice 45 minutes to an hour 6 days a week but still find my fretting hand cramps up especially when I play Barre chords for more than a few minutes. Does anyone know of any hand excercises I can do to help increase the strength and dexterity in my hand?

Best place to buy guitar parts?

06 June 2011 - 04:40 PM

I'm considering building a guitar for my sister's 40th b-day next year and have been looking around for necks and bodies. I'd like a strat style body with a universal rout because of the pick up configuration. Any suggestions for sources Warmoth, Carvin, Mighty Mite etc...? I've thought about buying a MIM strat to use as a starting point but I'm not sure about routing out the body.
I've built one other guitar from a kit and it turned out pretty well but I'd like to step it up a bit on this one. any suggestions?

Hammer ons and Pull offs?

15 March 2011 - 05:01 PM

After nearly 3 years of playing, I think I may be coming to the end of the beginning.
I am staring to dabble in hammer ons and pulls offs but to be honest my attempts seem week and anemic. Is there a trick that I am missing or is it just a matter of hitting the string harder and pulling off quicker which like everything else will come with practice?

A BIG birthday surprise

29 March 2010 - 03:59 PM

I turned 40 last week and got huge surprise. My girlfriend organized a party at one of my favorite pizza places and as it turns out through deception and trickery conspired with friends and family to get me an American Special Telecaster.
Over the course of 3 months I was poked and prodded to figure out what I might want and all the while I remained completely oblivious to what was going on right under my nose. I must be the luckiest guy on the planet.:smilinguitar:

Here it is between my Strat and Breedlove dreadnought.
