The left hand death grip !

07 September 2007 - 10:12 AM

Hi guys, can anyone suggest how I can improve my left hand technique (I'm a right-hander).
It recently occurred to me that when I watch more accomplished guitar players, their left hand always looks relaxed and free-flowing. My left hand, by comparison has an unbreakable death grip on the neck of my guitar.
I checked out some excellent lessons here but I think I am my own worst enemy. If I try and relax my fingers the notes are not clean. Any suggestions please. My guitar doesn't deserve to be strangled.:crying2:

Building a guitar part

Hey Kirk - First the good news: This is a great lesson. This is my kind of groove and I love this little piece AND, I am really enjoying playing it.

OK - now the bad news: I OBJECT to this site having so much fantastic material. There is simply too much choice. I'm finding myself with a wealth of materials - fantastic lessons, great advice and friendly assistance on every page. You guys have got it all wrong. There are loads of other sites out there leading the way with p*** poor material, dodgy videos and tabs lifted directly from the "How to play guitar like EC in 5 easy lessons" bible. These sites have it about right - only one or two useful items which you can focus on for 2 or 3 minutes before the boredom kicks in.

Get a grip Kirk.

Hi there

25 June 2007 - 06:33 AM

Hi everyone, I'm new to this site and pretty new to guitar playing. I'm really hooked on blues guitar and finger-style playing but as a novice I have a long way to go. It doesn't help that my fingers seem to totally disagree with the idea of this middle-aged white boy playing the guitar. Oh well. By the way, I've just started playing Kirk's "Jazzy Fingerstyle Blues" - I think this is a fantastic lesson. Hopefully I'll soon be able to play something cool
