Topics I've Started

Rodrigo Y Gabriela

24 April 2011 - 03:26 AM

Was I the only one of us to see Rodrigo and Gabriela at the Enmore in Sydney on Wednesday? I have to say I've seen a few of the name guitarists over the years, like Clapton and Emmanuel to name but two, but I never believed two guitar players with a bare stage and precious little else could receive such an enthusiastic standing ovation. If you haven't seen them before, then find a movie clip of them. You won't be disappointed.

SHamp

26 August 2010 - 10:16 PM

Just for interest sake, this is a new (newish anyway) amp which was shown on the New Inventors programme a week or so ago.

How about the youngest players.

01 April 2010 - 04:17 AM

We hear about the older members among us who've started learning late because of one reason or another. And it appears there's a certain pride in being able to learn a musical instrument in the later years of life. But what about the youngsters. Many times we hear of five or seven year olds who want to learn. But there doesn't seem to be much follow up.
What I'd like to hear are some success stories of the kids, the grandkids, the nephews and nieces who've wanted to learn guitar and who've stuck at it. I'm a born cynic when I hear about youngsters getting guitars. I hope there are some stories that'll prove me wrong.

A sad sight

16 November 2009 - 02:53 PM

Last weekend I wandered into the local tender centre to see what guitars they had.
There in a case was an Admira classical which had been fitted with steel strings. The soundboard was badly buckled and the bridge is now held down by two bolts and nuts, which incidentally don't match. Apart from that it only showed signs of much playing.
Sad to see any instrument destroyed by ignorance.
And no, I don't think a restoration would ever happen for this one.
The case wasn't bad though .....

Private Concert

19 July 2009 - 04:56 AM

I had some time to spare and found myself on You Tube. By chance came upon some offerings by one KeithRockerboblewis, and for want of something better to do, went through the whole list.
Now I'm sitting here smiling. A great concert. Plenty of variety coupled with real talent.
RockerBob, if you ever read this, thank you for the free tickets to your show. I've paid many hard earned dollars for concerts which have given me far less enjoyment.
