viewing videos using firefox?
Hi, I was just wondering how to get the videos to appear in the forum threads using Firefox. I have tried using Internet Explorer, and I've noticed the videos show up using that browser. However, using Firefox, that place is just left empty! Is there a solution to this??
Many Thanks. =)

Hi there,
It's funny you should post this. I have Firefox and I see the embedded movies fine, but another member here (actually our moderator allthumbs) has the same problem as you when viewing the lessons using firefox... I haven't been able to get to the bottom of this as I can't reproduce the problem on my computer (on Firefox).
I know that allthumbs has been able to get around this problem (I think) by using the Internet Explorer emulator extension/plugin... but I'll get him to post here and let you know.
I would love to get to the bottom of this but as I say, I can't see the problem as it works on my version of Firefox. I do have the same problem you are speaking of when using Netscape however so maybe I'll look at fixing that and it might fix the Firefox bug at the same time.
I'll update this topic if I find a solution.
Cheers
Clancy

Hi F4L. I have reinstalled firefox and tried everything I can think of ,but no go. What you can do is go to the firefox extention page and download IE View. It sits in your tool menu. Click it for the page you want to see in IE for running vids. If you want to disable it for that page at some point,go to your extentions box in tools. Click on IE View and then the options button and that will let you unselect the page. I will post this problem to the firefox forum and see what replies I get. I will let you know.

I use version Firefox version 1.0.4 and it works fine. Do you know the version you are using allthumbs and feeman_4_life?
I'll look into this further today. I'll ask over at the vBulletin forum, but it would be good to know the version of Firefox you're using before I do.
Thanks
Clancy

Ok, I seem to have found the problem. Here is a link to the solution. Just follow the directions and you should be good to go. You may have to reload this forum for it to kick in. I am one happy camper now. Here is the link.

That's great allthumbs (that was really bugging me)... makes you wonder why it was tuned off by default though doesn't it?
I'm not so sure that the solution there will fix feeman_4_life's problem however. I think his problem was not being able to see the embedded movie files in Firefox... or did you have that problem too... or was it just the embedded images that weren't showing up for you?

Well at least you solved one of the problems. That certainly made me happy. I'll look into it further too.

Ok, if you still can't run vids here it may be that you need to install an activex plugin on this page. It is about half way down. Try the test site before and after. Let me know if ir works. Here's the link.

I took a look at the page source and noticed that the <embed></embed> tag is missing within the <object> </object> tags. If you look at Kirk's old style pages, you will find a sample of the tag format. It should read something like:
<embed type="application/x-mplayer2" pluginspage="http://microsoft.com/windows/mediaplayer/en/download/" id="mediaPlayer" name="mediaPlayer" displaysize="4" autosize="-1" bgcolor="darkblue" showcontrols="true" showtracker="-1" showdisplay="0" showstatusbar="-1" videoborder3d="-1" autostart="0" src="media/video.wmv" designtimesp="5311" loop="false" height="309" width="320">
This should make it visible in all browsers that currently do not see the videos.

Hi Larry,
Unfortuanately embedding media in vBulletin isn't quite as straight forward as a normal html page. It's kind of a hack that I had to apply. It should work in Firefox, it does on the version I have anyway, but I will try just adding the embed tag over on my testing server and see if it doesn't break things... if you have any experience in embedding media in vBulletin, I'd be very happy to hear from you. Just PM me any time.
Thanks for taking the time to post this.

Hi Clancy,
Unfortunately, I have no experience with vBulletin. Although it worked in older versions of FireFox, it doesn't in the current one. It appears that FireFox has upgeaded their HTML compliancy which may be causing the problem. I'm sure this will fix Netsccape problems also. I'd be surprised the current pages works in browsers other than Internet Explorer.
Personally, I prefer to go to the bottom and click the link so it opens in a normal media player. The video is much larger and easier on there old eyes of mine

I am honestly quite surprised at all the replies I've gotten here! Normally I'd be luck if I get one or two responses in regards to a troubleshooting thread. So thanks for all the help!!
But...... Allthumbs, I have downloaded the activeX thing and installed it, still no luck, and the other link to check to see if I can see the images, I see them just fine.
Clancy, that's rather odd how it works for you. I'm using verion 1.0.7 and I have a theme skin installed, I believe I have all my preferences/options at default, and I have Mouse Gestures, Tabbrowser Preferences, Tab Clicking Options, Unread Tabs, FlashGot, and User Agent Switcher as installed extentions. But I don't think any of them have a conflict with this problem.
I haven't tried reinstalling to see yet, but I'll consider that option as a last resort to use. =P

All I can think of is for you to follow this link and ask the firefox moderator for help. He will need to know all your settings and extentions etc. Good luck.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
