  Managing PM's

Hope this is the right place to post this, if not Mods please come to the rescue..

I need to make some room in my Sent Messages but don't want to delete them all.
I created more folders some time ago and saved messages, but can't for the life of me remember how I did it.

Can someone please

Hi Geoff, I'll go through the whole process just in case anyway else is interested (you may already have completed some of these steps):-

1) Go into User CP which can be found in the blue bar right underneath the main Guitar for Beginners & Beyond logo.

2) You should now see a list of headings and sub-headings down the left-hand side. The required option is Heading - Private Messages; Sub-Heading - Edit Folders.

3) You should now see a screen with a heading halfway down the page 'Add New Folders'. Click the name(s) of the folder(s) you want to create in boxes and then click the 'save folders' button.

4) Now that you have created the folders you can start moving messages to them, so head back to the main private messages screen where you will see a list of all your messages.

5) In the small box to the right of each message place a tick next to each message you would like to move. Once you have selected the appropriate messages scroll down to the bottom of the page and, in the drop down menu near the bottom, select 'move to folder...' and then click on the 'Go' button.

6) You will then be taken to another page which has a drop down menu showing the name of available folders, selct the appropriate folder and then click on 'Go'.

7) Robert is your Father's brother.

Thanks Si for the help, BUT when I get to your step 5........................
Somebody must have crept into the drop down menu and with my 'move to folder' cos it aint there! There's the rub. Get out of that one then.
Bob's not my uncle yet.

What options are in your pull-down menu? Can any other members see the 'move to folder...' option?

I've just found that the 'move to folder' option is in 'received' msgs, it's only in 'sent' msgs that it's missing. The other options are all there though,'Mark as read' etc.

Ah, that makes sense. I don't know if the 'Move...' option can be added to the sent messages menu, Clancy would probably know. The only thing I can think of at the moment is to forward the relevant messages in your sent messages folder to yourself. You will then be able to use the 'move...' option.

Thanks again Simon. I don't fancy sending the rubbish I wrote back to myself, so I'll send it all to Uncle Bob and ask him to keep it for me.

Trouble managing PM's?

No worries mate, just delete all of them and you can have this one free.

Just stick him in anywhere and he'll get right to work. No job too big or small. Always has an answer for everything and will cheerfully respond to any other PM, anytime. Keep him as long as you like but don't forget to toss in a bit of Vegemite every now and then as he gets a bit mean without it. Can't help with your uncle I'm afraid.

Nice one 737, consider your self promoted to 747 for that.

Mind what you say about John though, he's my PM in a way too. I took the Oath 20 years ago, on the gold Coast. I'd swap him for our Tone any day.
He'll have to settle for Bovril though, there will be a heavy penalty here for smuggling Vegemite when our PM finds out what's going down in the US!

Heck I learn something new about this forum software every day... I didn't even know you could move your PM's into different folders, so I'm glad 6string and Simon were around to answer that one for ya Geoff...

The best thing for you to do if you want to keep copies of your PM's is to download them onto your computer. To do that, just chose download as CSV - you'll then be able to open the file in something like excel or the like. It'd be better than just copying and pasting in Word as you can search and sort them in excel. I should do that, I'm up to 2082 PM's (and I've deleted quite a few too).

To download, just select the PM's you want to download (you can do this from your sent folder as well) and scroll down until you see the drop down menu and select "download as CSV" and then just save to your computer.

You can also download as a text or xml file if that suits you better.

Hope that helps.

Clancy
