RSS for subforums?
Hi, Clancy...
I've mentioned earlier that I'm using RSS feeds... Then you had asked me if I'm using the whole forum feed, or a feed of certain subforum... That gave me an idea to use feed for "Members Guitar Lessons and Articles" subforum, but it seems it's not working... I'm using Firefox, and when I click on "add live bookmark", it sets the adress of the whole forum feed, not the one for the particular subforum... I'm using Sage add-on, don't know if that info is of any help... Any idea to use the feed for this subforum? Or better, am I talking nonsence? Does this feed even exist?
Of course, only if this is not much of a trouble for you... You already said that not many people are using feeds, so I don't want you to end up too busy just for me...
All best

Indeed.. there is something not right. This particular post is also in there.
I just punched in the URL of the subforums ( http://www.guitarforbeginners.com/fo...splay.php?f=71) in Liferea (linux feed reader) and it autodetects this feed: http://www.guitarforbeginners.com/fo...l.php?type=RSS
Other forums give the same result so that leads me to conclude there is only one feed that covers the whole site.
Never be unsure of what you can't play, be sure of what you can.

Ok, at the moment it only autodetects the main forum feed... but you can always go to your feed reader (in Sage, just click on the GFB feed properties) and manually put in the forum feed... for example, if you wanted Tekker's forum, just put:
http://www.guitarforbeginners.com/fo...ss&forumids=69
If you want multiple forums (say, Tekker's and Fretsource's forums) just put a comma between the forum numbers like:
http://www.guitarforbeginners.com/fo...forumids=69,70
If you want the full thread to show in your reader instead of just the thread title, you can use:
http://www.guitarforbeginners.com/fo...forumids=69,70
Note the type=rss2 difference in the link.
I have made all forums public apart from Kirks lesson forum. That means you will now be able to get the feed for all forums. Unfortuanately I don't have a way at this stage for logged in users to access the private forums via rss... but I'm working on it.
Also, I am setting up some forum feeds with better configurations than the standard title and link or full thread if you use type=rss2... you will also be able to autodetect the new feeds once I put them in place. I'll update this thread when I do.
Any suggestions of how you would like the feed to be set up, just post it here. I can configure it most ways I think, so just let me know.
Cheers
Clancy

Thanks, Clancy... That did the trick... If I get any ideas I'll surely suggest them...

Hey, Clancy, have you changed the feeds in some way? Because now you can't see the thread starter and forum in which the thread was started... Now you see only the first few words (first sentence) of the post... I like it this way, but I liked it the way it was before... If they could be combined, that would be ideal!!!
p.s. I haven't changed the link, it still says "type=rss", not rss2...

Hi again namiguShin,
If I can only set it up one way, which would you prefer the first part of the post or the old way where the thread starter and the forum showed up?

Hi Clancy,
I would definately like more the old way... It's much more informative... When you see in which forum the tread is started you have more information about it then from the first few words from it...
Once again, you're so kind! Thanks
