  Probably a dumb question...

What exactly does adding someone to your buddy list do..?!?

It allows you to borrow their cars and date their sisters
I have never used it so I am probably wrong.

It also means you can drop by their house and drink their beer and they won't get too mad at you!
I think you can set up buddies inside messenger programs like instant messenger, and then when you start the program, it lets you know if your "buddies" are online. Then you can ping them with a message.

No it's not a dumb question Ben.

What are Buddy Lists?

It's basically a quick way to see if your friends (or enemies hehe) are currently online. It does this by putting a little black plus sign (+) after your buddy in the users currently online section of the "What's going on" box on the forum home page.

To add someone to your buddy list, just got to their profile and click on the link that says "Add (membername) to Your Buddy List".

You can also remove anyone from your buddy list in the same way. If you want to remove them, just click on the link in their profile that now says "Remove (membername) from Your Buddy List" and all will return to normal.

What are Ignore Lists?

You can also add members to your ignore list. I can't imagine why anyone would want to do this, but... Ignore lists are used for those people who's messages you don't wish to read. By adding someone to your ignore list, the member's post will be hidden when you read a thread.

To add a member to your ignore list, just got to their profile page and click on "Add (membername) to Your Ignore List" - you can remove them from your ignore list in the same way as you would to remove a buddy. Just click on the Remove link.
