  Computer help please.

I was forced to buy a new computer because my old gateway XP just didn't have enough memory to handle the new norton antivirus, I really miss it because I was so familiar with it, anyway my new one is a gateway Vista, it works fine except for when I'm posting on the forum, my keyboard doesn't respond like it should, I have to really watch each letter I type because it just leaves some of them out and I have to re-hit keys all the time, I didn't have that problem with my old computer.
The keyboard works great everywhere else except on this forum.
Hope someone can give me a fix for this problem, it's very annoying.
Thank you,

I remember one time I experienced similar problem to this every time I typed texts (in notepad or Word). I found out that the FilterKeys (XP SP2) [Control Panel => Accesibility Options => FilterKeys (Options)] is activated.

Thanks scorpious,
I followed your instructions and found that my Filter Keys are not activated.
This new computer came with a new keyboard, I'm tempted to hook up my old one to see if it works ok, I'm holding off though because I have it packed up real good with my old computer and stored out in the garage, plus I don't have the slightest idea if that could possibly be the problem, I doubt it because this new keyboard works perfect everywhere else I've used it except on this forum.

Thanks Witchy,

My problem is exactly the same as the one on the YouToo (Typing problems) thread you turned me onto, I have a PM sent into skinnybloke so hopefully he will be able to guide me through a fix in some real simple terms that a computer illiterate like me can understand.
By the way is there a place on this site where I can learn how to do whatever you did to get that thread Typing problems to be something I could just click on and it would take me there?

Dear Witchy,
That was helpful to learn about the search, I tried it and see how it works, but I still don't understand how you got it transfered onto your post so I could could click on it and it would take me there.
For instance if I just type - Typing problems on here it doesn't work like that.

Skip,
Question and comment.
Was there no possibility of upgrading the memory in your old Gateway XP?

The way to insert a link into a post or eMail is to Right Click the address, click on Copy in the pop-up menu, go to your post, make sure the cursor is blinking, Right Click again, choose Paste on the pop-up menu and Voila!

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Monk

  maybe this will help

Go to control panel
then click on keyboard
There you should find some settings for typing speeds.
Experiment and see if this helps.

Better yet, get the old computer out and install AVG on it. Thats a much more reasonable Anti Virus, and its free to boot.

Vista is a platform for problems...

Thanks Jay Jay,
When I was learning to type, the fastest I could go was 19 to 20 wpm, that's when I'm racing the clock, when I have to think of what to type and type at the same time it's probably down around 14 wpm if that, I'm forced to type about half of that speed with this new problem, I have to watch each letter as I type it so I can correct it as I go, it does make less mistakes going that slow and I save time in the long run by not having to go back and make numerous corrections, it reminds me a bit of a TV remote control when the batteries are getting low, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
It only works like this on this particular forum, so I'm still in hopes that Clancy is able to find out why and correct it from her end.

Monk,
I thought I should go to a computer store and set up an appointment for a technition to come out and put another memory board in my computer and at the same time change my antivirus to one that wouldn't take so much memory to operate, my years Norton subscription was about to run out, and I didn't want to renew it, - but a young knowledgeable computer friend that lives a few states away from me told me on the instant messenger that by the time I paid for having that done, with another few hundred I could buy a brand new computer, so I took his word for it being better to do that, if I had it to do over again I would have went the other way, I lost a few things in the transfer besides, and now I've found out that my scanner won't work with this Vista, most of my life has gone like this.

It could be the engineers are using software debouncing for the keyboard with no pull downs and that is why it seems to miss letters. Who really knows?
Good Luck I really hope you find it.

Jay
Jay,
Typing slower did NOT fix the problem, it only let me see when it misfired at the time it happened, so I could correct it before I went on, it makes the same mistakes at one slow letter at a time.
I'm an old dude and afraid to to attempt to change anything around because with my luck and lack of knowledge about these contraptions, I would no doubt get something else screwed up, and why do you think that it is only on this forum that I and others have this problem, I still feel that Clancy will get this problem solved from her end.

It's not unusual here Skip, besides Youtoo there was this one in September, a few people have had the same problem, gives a little more insight. I switched to Firefox recently because of slow loading problems, it is a lot faster than MSN. Hope you find a solution Skip

weird typing

Best Wishes

Chris
