Electronic Tuners

Recommended Posts

I have owned a Korg GA-20 electronic tuner for a while now, and I've always wondered about the "weird" results that I get. When tuning any string, the needle of the tuner always goes a little sharp, then settles on zero for just a moment, and finally ends up a little flat. It's always a guessing game to figure out how to tweak my tuning pegs to get <almost> in tune for each string. Do all electronic tuners act this way? This is the only one I've ever used. Should I toss it and get a different one? If so, what?

For most tuners it's where it ends up that counts. A newly plucked string is a little sharp and quickly settles back to its true tone. The tuner picks that up. It's normal. Tweak the tuning based on the result after it settles down.

Thanks, Stephen,

I've always tended toward the middle tone. I'll try you're suggestion about using the point where it finally settles instead.
