Hi ! I'm not sure where to ask this question, but here it is.

What is the difference between standard tuning and open tuning?

Standard tuning is EADGBE, from bass to treble.

There are many open tunings. The idea is to tune the open strings to a chord, usually a major chord, so that when you strum through the open strings (not fretted) the result is a chord. Common open tunings are open D, open G, E.

I started playing when I was 16. I have played for fun on and off since then, but now I have a little more time to take it seriously. I enjoy playing and I would like to get really good at it. I feel like I have the potential to be good at it. I do a lot of finger picking. I have sort of a claw method, but I am attempting to switch to Travis picking. Also I never use a guitar pick, so I'm trying that out as well. I'd like to eventually record myself and maybe post some videos on Youtube or something.
I haven't been on many forums, at least not in a long time. I noticed that you could friend people. What is the purpose of this. Is it through facebook
