Take Me Home (Journey style rock ballad)

Recommended Posts

It looks like I've been bitten by the songwriting bug lately and I thought I'd give it a go at writing an 80's style rock ballad. It's about losing a family member that you grew up with and not being able to be by their side when they need it most. I am currently working out the piano parts for it.

The boat was sailing straight

The birds were flying high

The sails were full with wind

And white clouds in the sky

(pno break, gtr and bass in)

T’was only yesterday

The skies were clear

But suddenly

A storm is near

(chorus, rest of band in)

Now take me home

Let me call your name again

So take me home

I know I feel the pain

Then take me home

And break the news to me

The sun is rising

Just the start of morn

The taxi at the front door

Blowing its horn

Just one more time

Let me hold your hand

Before you depart

To another land

(chorus)

(gtr or strings solo)

I carry the weight

Of your mistakes

And though I forgive

My heart still aches

I’m a prisoner

And grief is my cage

I’m an animal

And pain is my rage

(chorus)

So take me home

And break the news to meThe boat was sailing straight

The birds were flying high

The sails were full with wind

And white clouds in the sky

(pno break, gtr and bass in)

T’was only yesterday

The skies were clear

But suddenly

A storm is near

(chorus, rest of band in)

Now take me home

Let me call your name again

So take me home

I know I feel the pain

Then take me home

And break the news to me

The sun is rising

Just the start of morn

The taxi at the front door

Blowing its horn

Just one more time

Let me hold your hand

Before you depart

To another land

(chorus)

(gtr or strings solo)

I carry the weight

Of your mistakes

And though I forgive

My heart still aches

I’m a prisoner

And grief is my cage

I’m an animal

And pain is my rage

(chorus)

So take me home

And break the news to me

Way to go Jess! Really great lyrics and it looks like you have a good idea in your head about how to arrange this into different instrumental parts.

Do you plan to record all the instruments yourself, or do you have a band to play with?

I was sorry to hear you have lost a close family member and are no longer able to have contact with them.

Writing lyrics when you are feeling lonely/down or sad, or feeling anything really, is always good - well I think it is. I've heard many artists of all genres say that turning personal pain into art is what creative people do - and that it 'helps'. Keep writing - anything - songs, poems, fiction - anything. :) Well done.
