Lyrics in need of a tune: I'm On My Way

Recommended Posts

These lyrics are a sort of School's Out idea - doesn't have to be school, it could be a leaving a worthless job or anything - it's about that feeling you get when you start out on a new adventure/holiday, you're all packed, boot loaded up, and you finally get on the road.

As always, feel free to switch, change, add, omit anything you like - whatever you can fit into a tune.

Brackets include what you might want to add, omit or substitute etc.

I'm On My Way

I’m on my way

Down the long (black) highway

I’m leaving home

Down the open road

Heading south

In search of my life

No more goin’ to school/work

No more trouble and strife

Chorus

Me and (my) Johnny

(We) Are on our way

Singing our heads off

Down the long (black) highway

Our beat up chevy/ford/whatever

Is taking us there

We can do what we want

No more worry or care

We’re driving south

To find sun, sea and (have) fun

We can stay down there

Till our ramblin’s all done/ramblin’ souls are done

Next Christmas time

We’ll be heading back home

(and) We’ll show/tell to the world

How far we have grown/roamed

Chorus

Me and (my) Johnny

We are on our way

Singing our heads off

Down the long (black) highway

Maybe pick up some girls

Gonna have a good time

The wind’s in our faces

And the world’s looking (just) fine

Oh yeah… the world’s looking fine…..

The open road and the long white line

We’re gonna have one helluva time

(‘cos)The whole wide world is/will be finally mine

And show them a good time

How'do Carol :)

i made a wee start on recordin this - i've got a beat n Guitar down ;)

i've tweaked the lyrics a wee bit....lol....probably quite a bit, but just to fit the flow and structure etc...

(V1)

I’m on my way

Down the long black highway

I’m leaving home

For the open road

Heading south

In search of a life

No more dealin with the pain

No more trouble and strife

(for me)

(V2)

A wing and a prayer

Is gonna take me there

I'll do what i like

Cos there' no one to care

I'm headin south

To find some fun in the sun

I'll stay down there

Till my ramblin's all been done

(Chorus)

Me and my old Geetar

We're on our way

Hitchin a ride

Down the long black highway

yeah Me and my old Geetar

We're on our way

Singin our hearts out

ON the blacktop highway

(Bridge)

I'm on my way

Down the long black highway

I'm gonna do things my way

On the blacktop highway

I'm on my way

Down the long black highway

I'm gonna do things my way

On the blacktop highway

(V3)

Right now

the future's lookin fine

The open road

and the long white line

I'll pick up some ladies

That look so fine

I'll put a smile on all their faces

And show them all a good time

(V4)

..............

...............

...............

...................

(Chorus)

Me and my old Geetar

We're on our way

Hitchin a ride

Down the long black highway

yeah Me and my old Geetar

We're on our way

Singin our hearts out

ON the blacktop highway

(Bridge)

I'm on my way

Down the long black highway

I'm gonna do things my way

On the blacktop highway

I'm on my way

Down the long black highway

I'm gonna do things my way

On the blacktop highway

this is how i hear it - structure wise and changes to make it flow for me to sing it, and hopefully feel it :)

not sure on verse 4 ??

it does go with the music i have in mind.....i think....lol...to my ears anyway

if you don't like any of the changes - let me know ;)

Paul.........

edit......

(V3)

Right now

the future's lookin bright

The open road

and the long white lines

When i get where i'm goin

i'll see what's goin on

I'll see what's on the right

And maybe do a little wrong ;)

(V4)

I'll hit the beach

And i'll hit the town

I'll hit top speed

And i won't slow down

I'll pick up some ladies

That look so fine

I'll put a smile on all their faces

And show them all a good time

I'm glad that this has cheered you up a bit - and being a wee bit mysterious always gets the girls...

Disclaimer: i would not describe myself as a girl, so you're safe from me - can't speak for others though. It's times like these when it's a pity that all our members are overwhelmingly male....and even fewer girl members (none?) in Scotland either.

Looking forward to your news update, and I'm sure the song will be as brilliant as always :)

Aye ;) i changed "Girls" to "Ladies" - a real "Man" (like me :D ) needs a real "Woman"

i can update my news now - i sat my drivin theory test on tuesday and passed :) and i booked a practical (real) drivin test for today and i passed that too :) .....so i will be hittin the "long black highway" in one way or another :D

Aye  synchronicity for sure..... Cheers Carol :)

i've put a ruff vocal down for this tonight- but i've had a few (too many) beers  .........I haven't been intoxicated for a good few years....lol...so it may not be up to scratch - even by my "ruff" standards - i'll maybe do a quick mix n post it tho....it'll be interesting to see if there is any difference to what i hear now (mildly under the influence) to what i hear tomorrow - to me, my singin hasn't been affected too much, but my Guitar playing has :guitarguy: ......i'm not a fan of alcohol, but i fancied a wee change n a laugh tonight :drinking:

Here's tonight's efforts :)

i think it's a wee bit noisy - not sure the vocals are clear enough - but it's quite a "Hard" Rock vibe i went for - and there's no bass Guitar yet......i'll see how this sounds to me in the morning :D

i've posted worse ;)
