Guitar for my birthday

28 posts in this topic

My birthday is coming up so i am going to treat myself to a new guitar.

I have been talking about it for months and now im finally going next week to try out a couple of guitars i have my eye on.

The 2 guitars i like the look of are an Ibanez act200 and Vintage v100 afd

Just wondered if anyone has any opinions or experience with either of these guitars.

Well they both have block inlays so, does it matter? That's my shallow side talking. I think it depends on how they feel when you play them, how easy they are to play, and what they sound like - not much help i know.

Get the one you want after you've played them, and if you can't decide which you want, it won't matter which you choose - they will both be equally good. Have fun checking them out!

The vintage v100 guitars caught my eye ages ago when i was researching epiphone les pauls on the net.Now because i have to drive 50+miles to try a v100 out i thought i would see what else they have incase i dont like it.Thats when i spotted the ibanez art200 guitar and now im thinking this is maybe the one i will choose. Cant wait to see them for real and try them both out.

Im like a big kid again im sure i must be having a midlife crisis or something  .

no question for me the vintage all the way that thing looks amazing and the pickups really set it of i've read reviews on other sites about them and havent found a bad one yet plus i don't really like metal. Have you looked at any sites that sell secondhand guitars you could pick up a 5 or 6 hundred pound guitar for 2 or 3 as long as you can try it before you buy you cant go wrong.

I have had my heart set on the vintage for months now but the more i look at the Ibanez i just love it.

The only bad things ive read about vintage is the quality control.Sometimes guitar shops receive what can be described as 2nds.Minor blemishes or slight damage etc.

I will be going over both guitars with a fine toothcomb to make sure they are what i expect. To some people less than 300 quid isnt much for a guitar but it is a lot of money for me.The sound and feel of the guitar will be the decider in the end if they are both as nice as they look in the pictures.

Micky I have been looking out for 2nd hand guitars on ebay etc but nothing near me has caught my attention so far.

Thanks everyone for your input.

Happy Birthday Stu,

both gtrs look good, one a bit more traditional than the other. I bet they both have very different necks. Play both and anything else in the store, have fun.

I got a wine red vintage v100 today for my birthday. My wife said it has to go away now for my birthday in may.I think it will be coming out to play a few times before then im afraid.

I spent some time trying it out but it just felt right in my hands.Easyer to play than my other electric guitar. The sound it produces through my little amp is so much better aswell.I am very happy.
