An interesting thing about CAGED

CAGED is based off of the 5 major chord shapes in the first position(utilizing open strings as much as possible) that can be moved up the neck by barring with the index finger.
At first glance these chords don't ALL seem to belong to the same key. That is true. They don't all belong to one Major key. However, they do all work for the blues in the key of A. CAGED are all the notes of the A minor pentatonic scale and every major caged chord sounds good to blues harmony in A. A is the 1, D is the 4, E is the 5, C is the 3b, and G is the 7b in an A blues or rock type progression. That's why it seems like the guitar was designed for blues music even though it wasn't.
