Miss Abington, Miss LewElla Abington

© Chapman Jones 25/08/09

[V1]

It must be sad to live inside

And not let anyone collide

with your heart, with your heart

[V2]

Every day must be a bore

When you sit behind a wooden door

in the dark, in the dark

[Chorus]

Miss Abington of all the things you could have done

You chose to keep your distance from the sun

Miss Abington my world goes by, right before your eyes

It's a shame to see you waste away, Miss Abington

[[break]

[V3]

I can only speculate

You never dream but lie awake

on your bed, on your bed

[V4]

And when the morning hour comes

You take your tea and breakfast crumbs

nothing said, nothing said

[Chorus]

Miss Abington of all the things you could have done

You chose to keep your distance from the sun

Miss Abington my world goes by, right before your eyes

It's a shame to see you waste away, Miss Abington

[bridge]

I wish I had a star I could wish upon

I'd close my eyes and wish for you, Miss Abington

[Guitar (or some instrument) Solo]

[Chorus]

Miss Abington of all the things you could have done

You chose to keep your distance from the sun

Miss Abington my world goes, by right before your eyes

It's a shame to see you waste away, Miss Abington

**

As always, it's your point for getting this far. :)

Les,

Great lyrics and tune. I love the lyrics, and the metre of the verses gives the piece a very special feel. The tune is very upbeat for the message but fits very nicely.

Nice Demo LC, cool lyrics really does paint a picture of a lonely spinster and the narrators unrequited love for her and the title change works well, Miss Abington does conjure up a different image to Miss Allison, sort of ages the character, nice writing, good song Les., look forward to hearing where you go with this.:winkthumb:

Updates or conclusion?

Thanks for asking X,

Yeah, Miss Abington still in the oven. I've been mulling it over. I'll mess with it some and then leave it air out a bit. I've tried different melodies and words to maybe change it up some. But sometimes the best ones are literally the first ones, if you get my meaning. Kinda goes back to that "when is a song done" thing.

I've gone back to the original melody with just a few minor changes in lyric. I have not recorded anything yet. It may be a couple weeks yet.

I've got a couple of older tunes I'm remixing for another radio show and have been trying to make my rubbish sound radio ready! :)

Saw the Irish steal the game from the Spartans today. What a finish!

ok ... here's some fresh perspective ....

We've reverted back to Allison. The whole demeanor of the lyric has changed. We've gone from an older lady spinster to a younger lonely girl... this is tonight's track dump.

It's been through five or six rewrites now. The lyrics are done. The music remains to be completely worked out but on this dump you can get a pretty good idea where its going to go. And count on some outrageous harmonies! Enjoy the crickets! :)

Allison Track Dump

Allison Lyrics

© The Jangle Band 09/09

********************

[V1]

Every day must be a bore

No boy's are knocking on your door

Allison, poor Allison

You sit alone out in the park

When you get home, your room is dark

Allison, poor Allison

[bridge]

Of all the things you could have done

You had to choose the hardest one

[Chorus]

Grey days and cloudy skies

The world is spinning right before your eyes

Oh, Allison

It's so sad – a crying shame

To see you sit and waste away,

Oh, Allison

[V2]

I can only speculate

You never dream but lie awake

On your bed On your feather bed

And when the morning hour comes

You take your tea and breakfast crumbs

Eyes are red, nothing said

[bridge]

Of all the things you could have done

I guess you’re not the only one

[Chorus]

I wish I had a single star

I'd wish away all your secret scars

Oh, Allison

It's so sad – a crying shame

To see you sit and waste away

Oh, Allison

[bREAK]

[Tag Outs]

[bridge]

Of all the things you could have done

Oh Allison, you never had any fun

Of all the things you could have done

You never lost your heart to any one

[Chorus]

Grey days and cloudy skies

The world is spinning right before your eyes

Oh, Allison

I wish I had a wishing stone

I'd wish that you weren't so alone

Oh, Allison

Oh, Allison

:yeahhh::punk: That's quite a re-write Les, and the combo really sbows how to bring a track alive - it's fantastic! Outrageous harmonies? Bring it on.

Hi LC,

Only just discovered this part of the forum and have come across this gem. Funny really because I wasn't aware of the rewrites and just listened to Miss Allison (Ablington) and my first thought was it would suit just being called Alison. (which is the final version!!)

The song itself is absolutely fantastic..superb lyrics and playing but the real lesson for me has been following your songwriting process and obviously comparing (and hoping to apply) them to my own. I'm really impressed with the craft that goes into your lyrics and realising them to a tune that coveys the words. From my point of view, the dynamics of that is a real skill which is sadly lacking in my process.

Anyway thanks for posting. I really enjoyed it

Cheers

Ian
