Recommended Posts

Here are the lyrics to my original tune I did a few weeks ago. I believe that they are finished and no further changes. Necessary.

If there were any rules to follow, I am sure i broke them all.

CAN'T BE MY TOWN

INTRO

(Chorus)

Cant be my town, too much missing from its past

Every time I visit, I see good things never last

Lets go on now, and kiss that all goodbye

Look around and ask my friends

For just one reason why

[v1]

Right here on old 3rd and main, once stood a Junior High

Now there's just an empty lot, made me want to die

Down the street great place to eat, called the Lyons Cafe

To my surprise, cant believe my eyes, I see its gone today

(Chorus)

Cant be my town, too much missing from its past

Every time I visit, I see good things never last

So lets move on now, and kiss that all goodbye

Look around and ask my friends

For just one reason why

Dobro Guitar Break

[v2]

Remember Old Don's Drive Inn where them car hops came around

Located there on 2nd street, I see they tore that down

We parked our cars at the bowling lot, when necking, was a phase

Damn good place to meet your friends, drag racing was a craze

(Chorus)

Cant be my town, too much missing from its past

Every time I visit, I see good things never last

Lets move on now, and kiss that all goodbye

Look around and ask my friends

For just one reason why

[v3]

In front of me I sure can see how BIG our High School grew

And where is Burmans Grocery Store, that great place we all new

Smoke filled room, HOT card games, juke box playing loud

If you were into skipping school, its the best place in our town

Accordion break or Fiddle

[4]

My mama lies there on a sunny hill, right next to the city park

As kids we used to play there, and stay 'til after dark

Now I'd like to stop more often, but its tough to find a way

My business just keeps pushing me, I'm sorry I can't stay

(Sweet Madonna banjo lick)

[v5]

Its a hot July and my POP and I watch fireworks light the sky

Its so hard to focus well, must be raindrops in my eye

Noth'in good about leaving here, but I know, I got to go

I love this town, time to pull those roots, growing deep down in my soul

(Chorus)

Cant be my town, so many changes from its past

Every time I visit, I see good things never last

Lets go on now, and kiss that all goodbye

Look again and ask my friends

For just one reason why

Look again and ask my friends

For just one reason why.

Nice lyrics, eddie. Brings back a lot of memories....not all good.

In reference to your lyrics, it brings to mind one of my favorites....."Small Town Saturday Night" by Hal Ketchum. I always thought that he must have wrote that about my town!

hb,

Thanks hb, the lyrics for my tune were rather easy because that's exactly what happened. Anybody from there will relate to the lyrics

and know each spot.

Just listened to "Small Town Saturday Night" great tune.

Knight,

Thank you.

Maybe this might inspire others to write something about there home town as well and put it to music. Everybody's got a story and a memory.

You captured a feeling with this song Eddie. Good singing and fine instrumental accompanyment and breaks. Enjoyed it very much. Makes me think of a friend of mine who I know would love this song. Thank you.

It's good to be able to see the lyrics as well as hear the music, and I agree totally with all the above. It's always interesting to hear about the different cultures many of us members grew up with. Of course everyone knows about the American version from all the films, but it's still strange (for me) to realise that you guys actually lived that experience, and it was in real life, not a movie.

Great song. :claping:

Starsailor, Zax, and Carol m,

Thank you all for looking, listening and leaving me your comments.

I must say that the 50's and 60's were the golden years of my life.

After 1965 things just got complicated.
