beginner needing direction!

im 50 yrs old wanting to learn to play. definitely want electric. dont want to go cheap cheap. leaning toward a MIM fender std tele. anyone know if this a good choice for beginner?

Nothin' at all wrong with a Standard MIM Tele. It will last you well beyond the beginner stage.

Just like any other guitar, there are good and bad examples (occasional quality control fluctuations), so it's best if you can actually play them before you buy - but as long as you get one that doesn't suffer from any QC issues, they're good, solid, reasonably-priced guitars.

Sure, why not. They are great guitars.

Do you have anyone to help you pick out a guitar? And amp? Is money an issue? If you are concerned about spending too much and making a mistake, you can always watch your local Craigslist. You can pick up a Squier strat and practice amp for around $100 - $125. After you've had a few lessons and get a better idea of what you want, you can spend your money more wisely and then sell your Squier for what you got in it.
