No, I'm Not Crazy - Project Song

This will be included in the It's In The Works Project. I've included an mp3 on this one. It's about a third time through recording. The timing is a bit off and there will be a couple of changes. But I thought I'd throw this into the pot. Let me know what you think!

No, I'm Not Crazy [4.1mb @ 4.21] ( but it will be shorter )

Capo 2 - In C : C F G Am
2nd Guitar Capo 7 in G .....

Can you hear me talking
Do I make any sense
Am I missin' the boat
Or wastin' time with a fence

I may be a little out of touch, I guess
But I didn't think love could make such a mess

No, I'm not crazy
I never really was
It only seemed that way
I was just in love

What is it I don't get
How did we lose that spark
There's a hole in the window
And on the other side it's dark

Except for a picture of you
A fading photo of a someone I knew

No, I'm not crazy
I never was
It only seemed that way
I was just in love

So when does this end
Maybe it never will
Maybe tomorrow
Maybe in a hotel

Or maybe it's just one of those things
Like the rain that comes and goes in spring

No, I'm not crazy
You know I never was
It only seemed that way
I was just in love

**
As always, thanks for getting this far.

Les

Hi Les,
Firstly, let me say, I'm fairly new to songwriting and I am finding your songs and reviews very helpful in my endeavours to build my craft. Thanks for sharing them with us.

So I don't feel qualified to give a full technical review yet so I will just stick to the bits which leap out at me as a listener.

This one works well for me except for the line
"or wastin time with a fence"

The image this conjures up is hangin around with someone who trades in stolen goods
If you are trying to portray indecision, would
"wastin time on a fence"
work a bit better?

The other verses and the chorus are all spot on, as is the guitar work

Cheers

Peter

Hey peterm,

Interesting you would find that line ....... and now that you mention it ....

I don't know but I guess maybe this would be an Americanism....

in the context of talking..... sometimes when talking with someone who doesn't respond or just doesn't grasp what it is I'm saying, I might say ... "talking to you is like talking to a fence", hence "wasting time with a fence"

Does that line make sense now ?

Or, I suppose I could be quite literal and write ....

did I miss the boat
or am I talking to a fence ..... or some derivative.....

The crux of the verse is I'm talking and no one is listening.

Les

Interesting. Most people of Brit. origin would probably say "like talking to a brick wall" in that context, rather than fence. (Nothing to do with Pink Floyd's brick wall BTW, just a very old saying) So yes, I think that would suggest it's an Americanism.

LMAO The end (the window fan bit) was too funny!! And unexpected!

Sounds great!

Hi Les
I read your reply and thought, "ahh, he means talking to a brick wall", then I saw that 737blues had just said the same thing , yep definitely an americanism. Then I guess my reading fence as a purveyor of stolen goods may also be british derived slang and possibly not have the same meaning in the US

Thanks for clearing that up

Cheers

Peter

I would change the line to
Or am I just dense.
We don't use the fence thing in Canada either. Closest we have is dumb as a post.

"Can you hear me talking

I took the whole thing as being a 2-way thought, like being stuck in the middle....sitting on the fence....just my .0 worth...
