long hair and lost opportunities

It was approaching closing time. The band was playing reggae and the small dance floor was packed. The bar itself was very small - a downstairs club. I was there by myself, can't remember why. I guess I was sometimes a bit of a loner. And of course, there was a girl... She was very pretty but in a demure sort of way. Long, long beautiful dark hair. I don't know, but there was something about her that I found very attractive. She was drunk. But that wasn't it. She looked very much like a loner, seemed very shy. I just really wanted to meet her and get to know her. I watched her get up and walk towards the bathrooms. She started to sway a bit and then, bam, she fell on the floor. I hurried over to help her. I stood over her and she opened her eyes. All of a sudden, she tried to get up. Her head jerked to a stop about a foot off the ground and the came crashing back to the floor. I was standing on her hair. I stood aside and she got up and fled. Concussion and all. Never met her again.
There's got to be a song in there somewhere...

Doug,
There is a song just busting to get out of that memory. Man that is straight out of a Bogart film.

Definitely a song here Doug, you've got the bar, the band, the attraction to a girl, an unfortunate accident, and wondering where she is now, perfect song material.

Or, in the U.S.A, grounds for a civil lawsuit!!!

I wouldn't mention bar names, or too precise descriptions, but yeh, it sounds like the making of a good song. Maybe on the order of Jimmy Buffet or Randy Newman. "She ain't leaving me cuz I stood on her hair" Blues.

A long time ago I dated a girl with real long hair. She seemed to have a minor problem with getting drunk on one drink.....this wasn't in new Jersey when it happened was it!??

So there it was, near closing time
and I'm alone at a table for two
the reggae band was smokin hot
mixed well with my ice cold brew

The bar itself was a downstairs club
always packed the dancing floor
and there I sat, about half in the bag
when I seen her, headed for the door

She was swaying towards the bathroom
swinging her long dark beautiful hair
and I found her quite attractive
don't know why but I had to stare

Then BAM like that, she took a fall
gravity up to it's ol bag a tricks
something about abusing alcohol
brings you down, like a ton of bricks

Well, I sprang to my feet to help her
stumbled over to where she fell
I stood close as she opened her eyes
they were glazed and not looking well

As she got up, her head jerked to a stop
and went smashing, back to the ground
seems her hair had chose, the very spot
to lay where my foot came down

I stood aside containing my smile
as she took her concussion and fled
never seen her again, I wonder why
I'm sure it wasn't anything I said

Needs a chorus someone

My one big chance
And I threw it away
Some stand alone
But I stood on her hair

That chorus above would have to be after the verse that explains it. Before then you could have

You see a girl
And your hearts in a spin
You want to go over
But you know its a sin.

She lies there in my memories
With silken hair beneath my feet
My mind replays the tragic scene
I think of how it could have been
Sometimes events conspire it seems
Fate rears it's head, crushes our dreams

Well Doug, If you don't get a song out of it, ever consider writing a book? It was so well written I was anticipating the comical ending but had no idea where it was going. Very Douglas Adams.

My old martial arts teacher used to slam me to the ground, stand on my long hair and laugh when I tried to get up and slammed back into the ground. Hehe.
