Mamma's Boy, Daddy's Girl - Original

Just playing around tonight (taking a short break from recording lol) and came up with these lyrics. I think it says country all the way! I made add more verses.

Mamma's Boy, Daddy's Girl
by: ATM Febrary 15, 2008

CHORUS:
Mamma's boy, Daddy's girl.
If that doesn't give your head a swirl.
What if you're two boys and two girls?
Please, save the nuts for the squirrels!

Why does it matter what sex I am?
Leo the Lion or Aries the Ram?
Look at your heart to see who you are.
Follow that sixth sense and you will go far.

Why does it matter what I wear?
Forget judgement, just tell me you care.
If anything is torn, it's not my clothes
Unconditional love? Yes, one of my woes.

Why does it matter on which lap I lie?
It shouldn't make living at home go awry.
I don't know if I could ever choose.
If you make me do it, we all will lose.

Wow Nutty, confused I am....I at first thought you were referring to the question of how to have a favorite when your bound by the selection. Then in the verses I thought it was from the childs point of just love me please both of you. Then my wife looks it over and says its about sexual preferences

And the squirrels bit totally locked me up in that insane asylum.

And last but not least, your " why does it matter what sex I am? leo or aries......I'm a Sagittarius {half man half animal}...I'm so confused

Edit - be easy on me, Its been a long day...lol

I'll say this as gently as possble XString....it is generally a good idea to follow what your wife says

So you thought the "nuts" went a little too far?

I'll look at the lyrics again keeping your comments in mind.

Hope tomorrow's a better day.

She tells me the same on a daily basis

LOL, it was the chorus that threw me off track, I'm the oldest of four{originally, now have 4 step-sibblings as well} and my youngest sister was always "Daddy's little girl, and my little brother was "mommy's little boy" and the whole famn damily was nuts..lol

When I first read these lyrics I was a little confused. Then after reading Kennys remarks and your answer I reread. Now it sounds as if the gist is, Just cause I am a Boy why can't I lay in Daddy's lap and if I am a girl why can't I lay in Momma's. Why do you have to be ones favorite at the expense of the other. Is this correct?
I have to admit the nuts line threw me and the Leo and Aries line (I believe both are males) had me going.
But I think you are on the right track, keep working on it, nice job.

Thanks for asking Chris.

No, after some of the comments with the lyrics, I wasn't sure how to go about it, so I dropped it for now.

It's funny you brought up cause I did have a second look at just a couple of days ago.

With "please save the nuts for the squirrels", I was trying to imply that the favouritims, difference people/parents make are crazy=nuts. Not very clear, but that's where my head was at the time.

I think there are some good statements in the verses, so I should go back to it.

All suggestions will be graciously accepted and appreciated.

Nutty

Nutty,
Interesting lyric,
I see here is a lot questions. You probably know what you have in your mind and perhaps the way you want to play and record.

Hi Nutty, Nuts means mad over here as well as the other things so I got the drift of that line, it does make people think a bit though which isn't a bad thing. Whiter shade of pale makes no sense at all but it didn't stop it selling.

I have some suggestions, hope I'm going along the right lines and that you like them.

Thought this could follow the Squirrels line.

No need for madness in my life
A choice between Husband and Wife
Just want to find which way to go
When you decide please let me know

And I wondered if you'd be interested in having this as the chorus,
and having the one on the original post as Verse 1 instead?

I notice things I am aware
Please think of me I'm here to share
Don't confuse me or make me choose
There's one of me and two of you

Hope I'm on the same wavelength no worries if I've missed the point

Best Wishes

Chris

Thanks for the feedback Eddie and Chris.

After your first inquiry Chris, I had another look and thought that it needs a general chorus because the flow of Mommy's boy, Daddy's girl doesn't follow through. The ideas of differences, however, does. I was thinking for the chorus along the lines of:

All that matters to me is me
I look in the mirror and see all I can be
I care about others and how they think
But not to the point to let my self sink

I just made that up. I like your suggestions too. I think I'll definitely do the chorus thing though.

I'll probably rename it to something like "All That Matters" or "All that Matters to Me".

Anyway, still needs some more work/thought.

Thanks again.

Nutty

Like that chorus Nutty, interested to see where you go with it, on reading it again it can have two meanings it can relate to favouritism or to sexual orientation which is fascinating it's certainly a lyric to make you sit up and think don't know if that was your intention but it works really well,. See I'm confused now

Nutty,
Throw an (or) in between Mamma's boy, or Daddy's girl.
See how that rings.

What if you're two boys and two girls?
What does this line begin to say? Does this indicate (4) people? If it does not, then - two boys or two girls?

  Now called "All That Matters"

Okay, here is a rewrite. The squirrels and nuts are gone Also, there were really two stories going on. I think I now have it narrowed down to one. I do have a tune now as well. The only problem is that I like the tune and it works well for both the chorus and verses. So, I'm not sure what to do there. It may be too much all in the same tune? Anyway, here are the revised lyrics.

Nutty

All That Matters To Me

Why does it matter what clothes I wear?
Forget judgement, just tell me you care.
If anything is torn, it's not my clothes
Unconditional love is just one of my woes.

Chorus:
All that matters to me is me
I look in the mirror and see all I can be
I care about others and how they think
But not to the point to let my self sink

Why does it matter what sex I am?
Leo the Lion or Aries the Ram?
Look at your heart to see who you are.
Follow your sixth sense and you will go far.

Chorus:

Why does it matter on which lap I lie?
It shouldn't make living at home go awry.
I don't know if I could ever choose.
If you make me do it, we all will lose.

Nutty,
That is much better in my opinion and certainly makes a lot of sense.
Should be a good tune.
