Chemical Dependency

I've put a couple of light hearted songs on recently so here's something a bit deeper

Chemical Dependency

Verse 1

I had a friend got hooked on drugs
To free himself from the daily drudge
He thought he could float to the moon
On a Reefer or a silver spoon
But as he floated he descended
Was not the guy that I befriended
With shaking hands, pupils dilated
His need for fixes never sated
I watched the unfolding tragic scene
Tried so hard to intervene

Chorus

Drugs don't answer
Any questions
Just fill the brain
With mad reflections
You won't find serenity
From chemical dependency

Verse 2

I knew a man who abused drink
To the depths this man did sink
He got punchy, started fights
Went home at night and beat his spouse
One day she snapped and ran away
She took the kids and sold the house
Now he's homeless begs on the street
People throw coins at his feet
He makes some cash with the Big Issue
Rings his Wife to say I miss you
But she has no time for his pleas
Wounds may heal, not memories

Chorus

Drugs don't answer
Any questions
Just fill the brain
With mad reflections
You won't find serenity
With Chemical Dependency

Verse 3

A lonely Housewife
Gets prescribed Valium
Her life it seems is so humdrum
To Doctors they were magic beads
These Pills that fulfilled patients needs
But these Pills did not address
The reason why she's so depressed
They just led to a new affliction
A prescriptive Drug addiction

Chorus

Drugs don't answer
Any questions
Just fill the brain
With mad reflections
You won't find serenity
With Chemical Dependency

Really nice Chris, might I suggest one more verse, something along the lines of..oh I don't know, say the powers of inner strength or maybe the questions referred to in your chorus, like why do them, can't you see, Just thinking out-loud here.......Kenny

got a tune in mind yet?

Hi Kenny I was kind of worried about falling into the preaching trap but I'm open to suggestions, I've actually just written this so I haven't got a tune, if you have feel free as always, thanks for having a look Kenny the inks still wet on this one

Yeah, preachy that may end-up. Could go with the ol "high on life" bit, but then again my brains on ice today{sliding all over the place}

I can put in another verse I'll try and find a middle ground between preachy and the high on life, don't leave your brain on ice too long Kenny Cryogenic can become systemic (is constant rhyming a registered illness, I cant seem to help myself

not good timing for me to be rhyming,
similar to the words you did spill
I could sure use a pill
my mind is sighing

I quite like the term my brains on ice
Can I use it for a song would be awfully nice (if I could please)

I'm not sure of the law but will take a guess,
since I don't own them out-right I'll say yes

Chris,
Nice job, I love the line:
"You won't find serenity
With Chemical Dependency"
I agree with Kenny, a last verse should give your opinion of a solution or what they are missing with the dependancy. If handled right it will not get preachy, but sometimes even preachy is not bad.

Thanks Knight, that's one of my favourite lines, I'll do another verse and thinking about it preachy isn't so bad when dealing with this kind of subject and the song does need to be tied up, now I've looked at it again I did leave things a bit up in the air, hope you're in good form and thanks for having a look.

All the Best

Chris

Hey Chris{or should I say Cousin It}, maybe something along the lines of...

Me myself I have no use
my body/mind can't take the abuse
something something
etc etc

wouldn't sound preachy that way....just a thought

Yes that will work Kenny I'll follow that tack just to tie the song up, thanks for having a go, I still haven't got a tune for this one so it's up for grabs if any one wants to have a go, I got tired of the Sea thought I'd come ashore and let my hair down

I like the line:
"Me myself I have no use
my body/mind can't take the abuse
something something
etc etc"

but I am finding a hard time rhyming etc...
