  Tips for Audio Mixing: References

You'll find a wealth of information about recording, mixing and mastering on the web. A great website for all aspects of recording and mixing is that of John Vestman. He owns and operates a mastering studio in Orange County, CA. He is one of the greats in the business. If you are into recording and mastering, you will totally dig this site! He has an unbelievable amount of information! Micing tips, recording tips, everything you wanted to know and ask about digital vs. analog, etc., etc. I guarantee you will bookmark this site! Check out the latest technique in mastering: (developed by John and now being used in other mastering houses) Separation Mastering.

There are many good articles that can be found about audio mixing at Harmony Central. Another great place to interact with professional audio engineers (I do and just love it. I'm a relative novice and just love picking their brains) is at the tascamforums.com website. They have wonderful discussions there about all things Tascam and audio engineering. Priceless information that can only be had from people who mix music for a living day in and day out.

For great recording, mixing and psychoacoustic ideas, check out the book, Mixing with Your Mind by Australia's own Mike Stavrou. It's the most useful book on my shelf at the moment.

The Mixing Engineer's Handbook is also an invaluable collection of input from the big-time pros.

Homerecording.com is a great resource for those starting out on computer recording at home. So are any of the very numerous guitar websites. Here at GfB&B we have Tekker's articles and lessons. All guitarists are either into or want to be into recording! Including me!

Have fun and all the best,

Steve

Becoming a great guitarist has less to do with fancy moves than it does becoming a master of the basics and learning musicianship.
It's not what you can't do. It's how you play what you already know.
