Yeah it's pretty cool isn't it?
I stumbled on to it some time back and had some fun with it.

I found that when you get up into the higher scores, the way the clickable notes are laid out causes me to lose some time while I hunt and peck.

Fretboard Warrior is cool for what it is, but I too get slowed down by trying to click on the answer (I typically know it long before I can enter it).

What interests me more is something like Fretsource's Ear Training Lesson, in particular the up to the 12th fret exercise. This really helps me make the ear to fretboard connection. However, I find after doing it a few times that I automatically begin learning the sequence instead of just strictly listening.

Is anyone aware of an online random note generator that would be truly different each time so I couldn't cheat? It doesn't necessarily have to speed up like the one in Fretsource's lesson.

Thanks for that link. However, it looks like it's only available for Windows.

But to answer my own question, I did a little poking around and came up with an interactive ear trainer at Wholenote.com

Unfortunately, it looks like I can't post the link since I have less than 10 posts. It can be found in the "Basics" section under Ear Training.

I think I'll try that for a while and see where it leads. At least it's free (for now).

Just a bit of info. On the site, you can download a version for OSX (Apple).
And I just tested and it runs fine on Linux with wine (http://www.winehq.org/)

I'm running Gentoo linux, so all I have to do is emerge wine. When that is done, run winecfg and it pretty much sets up your box.

Get the fredboard download .exe which is a self extracting archive. Do wine fretboardwarrior.exe and extract it. Then with the resulting file out of that...just run it normally with wine.

wine "Fretboard Warrier.exe" and it fires right up....

HTH,

cayenne
