Is there such a thing as this?

Does anyone have an idea of any software that can take a cd and create tab from a song?

Anthony

Anthony, for a "workable" guitar tab, the short answer is.......NO. (From a MIDI, ...maybe)
Good idea tho!

Can you imagine how thrilled the music industry would be if something came out like that. There would be law suites flying everywhere.

there are ways to take a single note line and convert it to MIDI, then MIDI to tab. This does not work at all of more than one note at a time is played or more than one instrument is playing. Single notes only!

Separating out chords or multiple instruments will be some time yet. Perhaps in the next 10 years or so.

There is a programme that claims to do this, costs $99 AUSD, and is crap. The music shop I work for/teach at ordered in a copy, I loaded it up...and it was hopeless.
Tabs and books are great, but start transcribing pieces on your own. Developing your ear is a wonderful thing to do for a guitarist to do. As you work at it you will start to hear chords and progressions without the need to check with a guitar.
I used to put on the radio, and attempt to improvise over any song that came on, or try and work out the chords as it played. Putting those sorts of limits on myself really made me focus and develop my ear.

It's fun doing that to the tv over commercials and background music too.

I agree AT.
I found practising like that really helped me with filling in at gigs with guys I had never met, and tunes I had never played before.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!

Buy it now for only $10
