Tired wrist

okies, it's wrist problems again... or problem, I dunno, but it bothers me.

I feel really tired in my left (fretting) wrist and hand/fingers... it's like I've been working out hard with it recently! This started a month or so ago, two weeks ago I decided to rest from guitar playing, so I haven't played since... but it still feels tired. Reflexes with it are also a lot slower than usual...

Has anyone else ever experienced this? Was trying to ask the docs about it, but they refuse to give me any time just because it does not hurt... Bleh. "Give it time" they say. Yeah, but how long shall I have to wait before I can tell it's something other to it? A year? =S

No, because last time I tried to I damaged my wrist really bad 'cause the instructions I read weren't very clear... haven't dared to try it since.

lol, no, a teacher at my old school showed it to me... I didn't even stretch for 1 sec and SOMETHING in the wrist said 'snap'. I don't remember what it was, but it sure hurt.

Yikes. Stretches by their nature should always be gentle. If you heard a snap, you should have it x rayed.

Yea, I had. That was more than 2 years ago, so I don't remember what it was. I didn't break it, but I think a tendon or something was damaged. Whatever it was, it wasn't fun... luckily I didn't play guitar at that time!

You probably don't have access to one, but a sports injury massage therapist might be able to help.

Sounds like it's possible there's some tendon damage. But I don't know, I'm not qualified to say.

But regardless, or should I say, especially because, of any wrist damage, please remember to hold the guitar ergonomically correct for the left hand. You may have already heard this stuff before, but be sure to hold the neck and play with your hand in the most natural position possible. You will stretch and arch the hand and fingers beyond what is the natural position, but this is the right road to follow. When your hand begins to hurt, 'shake it off'. Shake the hand back and forth and stretch the fingers and tendons and get your hand feeling natural again before playing again.

Sorry, don't mean to be sounding like a doctor, it's just that I've 'been there and done that'.

Hiya Steve

Yeah, I've been there and done that too... You're hitting the spot in a way, though what I did was playing too much. When my hand got tired, I had to press harder to get sound out of the strings (or at least I felt I had to) and thus I probably damaged something.

Now I'm just wondering why this tired feeling remains, the pains I had are since long gone. Though I've just noticed that it isn't just my wrist, but my entire left arm. Overall, it's a lot, and I mean a LOT weaker than my right... :\

Gutter, lol, with my left arm being so much weaker as it is, I'd fall over instantly!

ya know wth my therapy for my md they make me use these giant rubberband things.just a long flat piece of thin rubber and they make me throw it over a door or door knob and work out like that .t helps me keep the muscle i do have from dying.i know another rubberband thing but this does help improve weak muscles.can prob find it at any store that carries sports equiptment.its about 4 to 5 feet long 8 inches wide really thin.good luck

It could be scar tissue. It tends to adhere to soft tissue and restricts full range of motion. A good massage therapist can loosen the adhesions over time. It could also be nerve damage. Chronic tennis elbow will have those symptoms. You really should see someone about it.

yea at right sounds like ya been having these hand and wrist probs for a whle id def get it checked out before ya do anymore damage by straining it.
