Scoops and Fall-Offs

Ok been having a tough time with this and haven't found anywhere that really explains how to play it. I was hoping maybe that someone could point me in the right direction or tell me how. Here is an example of what I'm trying to do, its a simple little thing and all.

|---------------------------8--|--10/11\10-------------------|
|--------------------8--10-----|-------------8 / 10 \ ---------|
|----------5--7 / 9-------------|-----------------------------|
|--/5--7-----------------------|------------------------------|
|-----------------------------|-------------------------------|
|-----------------------------|-------------------------------|

Above the 7/9 is a tie over....Above the 10/11\10 is a tie over... Above the 8/10 is a tie over. The ones Im really interested in are the /5 and the 10\ at the beginning and end. In other words how do you scoop onto the fifth and how do you fall off the 10.

Hope this makes sense. Thanks for any help.

i can explan to ya better on yahoo if ya want!but just some slides nothing hard..ever hear of pantera listen to the song mouth for war and that will help ya understand ,the way i do it is kinda pressuring my way into the slide.the very into is kinda a tie into a bend.could also be a volume control thing.but i think its just feeding into a slide more pressure on string as ya move up to that fret

RIP Dimebag

The image below should help you understand the different types of slides. Your use of scoop and falloff was interesting as they are not common among guitar players. From your description of tie-offs above the slides, I believe they are probably legato slides where only the first note of the slide is picked. I am assuming the curved line above the slide is present as shown in the legato slides in the image below. In the image, the slide lines are very light, but if you look closely, they are there.

The beginnong scoop to fret 5 means to pick the note 2-3 or indeterminate number of frets below the shown fret, then quickly slide to the shown fret. The falloff from fret 10, means pick the note at fret 10, then slide down 2-3 or any number of frets below before releasing the pressure on the string.

Yeah it is the curved lines above it, didn't know a way of describing that at the time. Very good info there Larry. Thanks.

Horns!
