Which scale to play ?

Hi Family !

I hope everything is great there !

Sorry if my question is very basic - Just wanted to ask which scale should be played over a backing track of the following chord-progression -

Gmaj / Emin / Cmaj / D maj

Kindly advice, sorry if I'm being over ambitious, just wanted to try what I can do with a scale over a backing track.

Regards and Lots of Care
Kush

G major scale works. Also try, as Kirk would say, the chord tones from each chord as you go through the progression.

That's right! But as well as that.

Hi Kush!
I am not sure of your playing level, but the most basic thing to play is the
E minor pentatonic scale over your Gmaj tune. Notice the E min is in the tune also!
The notes are (from "G" ) G - A - B - D - E - G - A - B - D - E - G played from the third fret on Sixth String (fat one) to the third fret on First String (Thin one )
These notes don't have to be played in that order either, just use the ones that make a melodic tune that you like over these Chords, Fiddle with them. Otherwise just do as Rockerbob has said!

Have Fun.

It's been very important throughout my career that I've met all the guys I've copied, because at each stage they've said,
"Don't play like me, play like you." - ERIC CLAPTON.
AND NOW THAT I HAVE SEEN HIM IN CONCERT IN BRISBANE I LIKE HIM EVEN MORE ! ! !

G major works nicely but when it go's to the Cmajor chord think of the F# in the G major scale as note to avoid (at least don't hold onto it) You can use it very effectivily as a transistional note. A note that "takes" you to the note below ..(the note below being F) or above (being G) both of which sound good. The F sounds jazzier as it is a fourth in the C chord
scheme and the G sound wholesome and strong as a fifth in its relationship with C

I actually like the Lydian mode - the raised 4th has some bite to it that I really like.
