Fingering power chords...

Hi guys, just a quick fretting question. I've been trying to learn some basic punk songs at the moment but I've been having trouble with finding a comfortable way to fret some of the power chords (in particular those spaced out on the lower frets), no matter what I try my hand seems to ache like mad. Here's an example of a bar from Hash Pipe, am I supposed to fret these with all my fingers, or barr it, or what?

e|---------------------------------------------------|
B|---------------------------------------------------|
G|-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-----------------------------------|
D|-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7--7-7-9-10-------------------------|
A|-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5--7-7-9-10-------------------------|
E|-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5--7-7-9--9-------------------------|

Any advice on how to finger these would be great. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I would barr these chords with my index and ring finger. Often you may see players use all 4 fingers, but I find it easier in the context of shifting the chords up and down the neck. Finger and hand ache are common when just starting out, but that will soon disappear when the hand gets used to the odd position the hand is forced into sometimes! Good luck and NEVER quit

I agree with john, I do the exact same thing, specially when it comes to having to play say a 16 beat (?), the barring helps quite a bit.
Amen to the hand ache at first.

I would barre E A and D with your index finger then use you're ring finger for D and you pinky for G. then when its 7,7,7 and 9,9,9 you already have the barre over those three strings so just lift up you ring finger and pinky, then slide your index finger up to the 9th fret then put either you middle finger and ring finger on A and D or ring finger and pinky on A and D, which ever is most comfortable

I prefer barring with the Index and Pinky instead... reason for this is that my hand position looked so damn ugly when I barred with the ring finger! + Pinky is more comfortable while standing.
