Real easy starting one, is greenday hitching a ride - B5// A5// G5// F5/\/\/\ then PM through the verse (or chorus, i cant remember now)
The offspring - Spare me the details G#5 D#5 C#5 then G#5 F5 (5th string root) C#5 again, same progression muted through the verse
Black Sabbath - Iron Man easily recognisable
Metallica - For whom the bell tolls
ZZtop's stuff (legs, sharp dressed man) isnt too hard by the sounds of it, but ive never really tried to learn it

Hey Kush, how are you?
I hope both you and Priya are doin' well!
As far as metal goes, perhaps the easiest metal are some of the Black Sabbath tunes, like Paranoid, Iron Man (as Matty mentioned above), Electric Funeral, etc
Then if you check out some of the KISS stuff (albeit not heavy metal), you'll notice that not only are they catchy but also fairly easy to learn. Especially the intros to Cold Gin, Parasite, She, Calling Dr. Love, Nothing To Lose, etc.
Good luck Kush!

The rhythm guitar for "Cold Gin" is VERY easy - it's mostly just A/G/D.
Many of the Scorpions songs have very basic rhythm progressions.....very easily played with barre chords (i.e. "Rock You Like a Hurricane", "The Zoo", etc.)

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
