try putting the lyrics to Kirks' version of House of the Rising Sun. That is a pretty easy one. GreenDay does some pretty simple tunes, google for the tabs. I can't help much, I don't sing and all my focus is jamming over bts for the most part. Sorry

One of my favourite songs and one of the first I learnt was "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd. Its actually quite easy to learn and yet sounds really good fairly quickly in the learning process.
when you get to the singing bit there are only easy chord changes and simple strumming - ie Down down up up down down up up /change with the next down - and its G-D-AM-G then G-D-C-AM-G for all the singing bits with that strum pattern - the "theme" is dead easy and really catchy too and easy to pick up with practice.
There is a good starting lesson in guitarnoise website for this song too
Have fun.

I find ""Stay"" (..people stay, just a little bit longer) which is just G, Em, C and D is a good way to break the deadlock of singing and playing at the same time..and if you play it at a party late at night, the positive reaction you get will do wonders for your self-esteem.
Another bonus is that there are around four hundred songs based on this turn-around (Summer Holiday, Blue Moon, The Time Is High, Please Mr Postman, Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life, etc, etc) so that you have a wide choice to work with.

I found Seether's 69Tea easy to play and sing. Also Collective Soul's December is a good one too.
Guitar: 1) Behringer Stratocaster; Webstrings Memphis Electric Xlight strings; Dunlop Picks
2) Ibanez TCY-10 Talman Series; Elixir Light strings.

People keep telling me 'Wish You Were Here' is easy but I've been playing for about 30 years and I still don't get it.
There's kind of a double edged sword here. If the song is quite easy to play then the vocal is usually a bit more challenging. For instance, U2's 'With Or Without You' is just a repeat of D, A, Bm, G. That's the whole song, but you have to be able to hit some high notes to carry the vocal properly. Same with 'Simple Man' by Lynyrd Skynyrd. That's C, G, Am for the whole song, verses and chorus, but you're going to need to vocally hit the A on the 1st string, 5th fret on the chorus.
I play 'Knockin' On Heavens' Door' G, D, Am and just repeat that for the verses and chorus. That one shouldn't be too hard. Most U2 songs are very easy to play; just 3 or 4 chords. 'Wicked Games' by Chris Issak is just G, D, Am over and over and over. Again, killer vocal performance though.

at the moment I'm learning "Slide" by the Goo Goo Dolls. Anyone heard it? Nice catchy little tune. Got the strumming pattern pretty much down now so its just putting my voice over it.
