Your mate is clueless if he thinks girls are weak. Obviously he has never seen childbirth - women are tough as nails.

Here are women that I know of that are some of the best guitarists in the world (male or female): Bonnie Raitt, Rory Block, Deborah Coleman, and Debbie Davies. And that is just 'scratching' the surface of great female guitarists.

So here is what I would tell you. Use the resources you can get? Internet. Books. CDs. Then practice & play. Don't give up.

As for those guys who wouldn't teach you how to play because you are a girl, they are full of &*)(^(*&.

That sucks. Tell you what. Learn the basics, barr chords and such. In a year or so, buy Kirks' book and DVD Plane Talk and you will leave this guys students in the dust. Hang in there, there are lots of great women players in all styles. That guy is living in the last century. Good luck. Ask your questions here and we will try to help as much as possible.

Hang in there and keep playing. The lessons on this site will take you a long way. One day, the 20th century will dawn upon the middle east.

The only real thing that gets in the way of women playing guitar is probably the hand size and fingernails... but women can play guitar rather well if they learn to.

Guitar: 1) Behringer Stratocaster; Webstrings Memphis Electric Xlight strings; Dunlop Picks

2) Ibanez TCY-10 Talman Series; Elixir Light strings.

Man your mate is sexist and yeah as someone already said "is clueless".

What part of guitar requires manly strength?? I'm confused. Personally I think girls are at no disadvantage and how good you are at the guitar is not about your sex but dedication.

Anyway yeah keep at it!

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
