When i am playing my guitar, and turning the volume nob, it sounds like it is shorting out, and for some reason only works when its around 7-10, wont work on volume 1-6, sometimes i have to like push it down, dont really know wat the problem is.

two things come to mind. Check the soldering on your volume pot. Second, you might need to get a new volume pot. They do wear out eventualy.

buy and install a new pot set. If you are not able to solder, take it to a shop and get it fixed.

Guitar: 1) Behringer Stratocaster; Webstrings Memphis Electric Xlight strings; Dunlop Picks

2) Ibanez TCY-10 Talman Series; Elixir Light strings.

  Volume knob

Replacing the pots is of course a solution, but probably you just have to get a can of contact cleaner and flush the pots. The problem is most likely humidity and dirt which builds up in all pots as time goes by. This operation takes only a few minutes and you don't have to solder.

The pot huh...

Yeah as someone has stated its probably either a loose solder connection or a bad pot. I suggest the following:

1. If its a loose solder connection unscrew the panel on the back and solder the joint back on using a soldering iron. Loose joints are normally caused by a loose knob - as in the knob isn't tightened on the scratch plate properly. So after you've sorted out the connection, try pulling the plastic knob off and tighten the nut which is under it. This needs to be done while the back cover is off as you need to tighen the nut while holding the pot.

2. If its a bad pot its probably either caused by dust between the rail inside, in which case use a aerosol cleaner thing - forgot the name for it but you can get it at electronic stores, or its a broken rail in which case you need to get a new pot. It's quite easy to solder the new pot in yourself as long as you're careful so if you're confident do it. Just make sure that you note which wire is connected to each of the 3 legs on the pot and you'll be fine!

Anyway thats it from me, hope it was useful.

It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
